The Good

  • Professional Monitoring
  • Lifetime Guarante
  • Highly Rated Mobile App
  • Customer Programs
  • Equipment Options
  • Smart Home Compatible

Professional Monitoring

One of the biggest perks of ADS Security is its 24/7 professional monitoring for all burglar alarm and video surveillance systems. The company claims that its monitoring center ranks in the top 5 percent of U.S. monitoring centers.

You can reach the monitoring center 24/7/365. All packages include this monitoring service.

Lifetime Guarantee

ADS Security stands behind a lifetime guarantee that if you aren't 100 percent satisfied, the company will work to resolve the issue or cancel your service without any additional fees. As a customer investing in a long-term contract, this can be reassuring.

Some equipment is not protected by this lifetime guarantee, including backup batteries for security equipment.

Highly Rated Mobile App

The ADS Aniware app allows you remote access from your smart device to your system. You can arm and disarm alarms while also checking cameras and other home systems.

Customers rate the app nearly 5 stars, which is an impressive rating given that many home security apps average around 3.5.

Customer Programs

For loyal customers, ADS has a few programs to help them save.

With the referral program, you can earn $50 for each person you refer who signs up. If you refer seven people, you can receive lifetime free monitoring.

ADS also has a moving program. If you're moving within the eight states ADS serves, you can get a free system or transfer your current one. However, keep in mind that if you move out of the ADS area, you could pay a substantial cancellation fee.

With the ADS loyalty program, you earn $50 for each year you're with ADS, up to $500. This reward can be used to upgrade equipment, such as purchasing more security cameras or sensors.

Equipment Options

ADS Security has sleek options for its customers:

  • Smart electric lock
  • Smoke and carbon monoxide detector
  • Window and door sensor
  • Motion sensor
  • Indoor camera
  • Doorbell camera

Smart Home Compatible

Your ADS Security system is also compatible with home automation technology, including smart lock, garage door, smart lighting, water valve control, and smart thermostat functionality. To fully integrate its systems with home automation, ADS Security has partnered with Z-Wave, Apple, Alexa, August, and others.

The Bad

  • Only Licensed in 8 States
  • No DIY Installation
  • 36-Month Contract
  • Limited Cost Information

Only Licensed in 8 States

ADS Security likes to keep a local feel to its business. Because of this, ADS only operates in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. This means customers in these states receive a more personalized experience in their security monitoring.

However, you may prefer to work with a bigger company that has nationwide reach. You can incur cancellation fees and penalties when moving to a state ADS does not serve, so if you're planning on moving frequently across state boundaries, this service may not be for you.

No DIY Installation

ADS Security does not offer customers the option to install their home security system themselves, but instead promotes its professional installation and professional monitoring services as a superior option.

36-Month Contract

Expect a 36-month contract with ADS Security. After the 36 months is over, the customer will automatically move to a month-to-month agreement.

While three years is a long time to commit to a security company, particularly if you've never worked with them before, this is standard in the industry. Other competitors have similar contract lengths, with some companies extending contracts for four years or more.

However, if you're looking for something month-to-month, or at the very least shorter, you have several security options.

Limited Cost Information

ADS Security notes that its monthly monitoring fee starts at $39 for a smoke detector, lifetime guarantee and professional monitoring, and free service for life. However, many customers note that comprehensive packages come at a steeper price, and installation costs can be expensive, nearing and sometimes exceeding $200.

To receive a personalized quote, you'll need to work with ADS directly. This can be inconvenient for customers looking to compare options, but the consultation is free.

The Bottom Line

ADS Security has been in the business a long time and continues to update its technology and product offerings for its customers. Residents of the southeastern United States might benefit  from a free consultation from ADS Security.

However, if the price tag and contract length dissuade you, check out our top-ranked security companies and see which ones might be a better fit for you.

I have been with ADS for eight years and have been pleased with their service. I have never used anyone else so can not compare. But I do know that when an alarm goes off they call me in less than 30 seconds to check to see if they need to cancel the alert. Repair service is quick and completed in a timely manner. So far so great.

We used some of our reward points for a doorbell camera a few months ago. We don't feel it's working properly and now we have a contract for 3 years . Before purchasing, research and have a tech come out and check to see how it will work at your house and explain it to you. We feel it was really misrepresented to us.

Beware!! We paid $1200.00 for their basic equipment and have had a $40 a month for the past 4 years. We want to add a thermostat. ADS demanded another 400 dollars PLUS another 8 dollars on our monthly bill. ADT will replace all our current equipment, add a camera and thermostat all for 79 dollars with a $40 dollar a month payment. We called ADS to let them know that we wanted to go with ADT. The customer service told us it would be $500 to cancel our contract, but to wait they would see about getting us a thermostat. That was 10 days ago and we have heard nothing back. Our salesman, Rand, whom we have never met, is ignoring our calls and texts. This company sucks!! I'm surprised they are only rated #82. Beware and go elsewhere!!

Worst company out there. If there were negative stars I would use that. Customer service awful. Appointments cancelled by them at last minute, then wait another 10 days to reschedule. Techs many times couldn't or didn't know how to fix issues. Some techs appeared to have absolutely no customer training and big attitude problems. Had a big package with this company...it worked maybe 10% of the time. I could go on and on. Not worth the hassle. Very disappointed all around. DO NOT RECOMMEND !! My advice....DON'T DO IT!!
