The Good

  • Over 80 Carrier Options
  • Independent Agents

Over 80 Carrier Options

When you work with Goosehead, you have access to home insurance coverage options from many carriers rather than just a handful.

Goosehead Insurance carriers include well-known national brands as well as lesser-known brands that may provide enhanced local coverage. The many carrier options available include the following:

  • AIG
  • Chubb
  • CSE
  • Encompass
  • The Hartford
  • Hippo
  • Kemper
  • Liberty Mutual
  • Mercury Insurance
  • Metlife
  • National General
  • Progressive
  • Pure
  • Travelers
  • Wellington

Independent Agents

Goosehead agents are independent, which means they’re not locked into rules dictated by one particular carrier as is the case with captive agents. Therefore, agents can focus on representing clients without as much pressure to meet sales quotas for a particular carrier.

The Bad

  • Traditional Sales Process
  • Variable Discounts

Traditional Sales Process

While Goosehead does utilize innovative technology and back-office support to agents and clients, there is still a traditional aspect of insurance sales involved rather than a completely online experience. You do need to speak directly with a licensed representative at some point to confirm your purchase.

Variable Discounts

Additionally, home insurance discounts vary by state and insurance providers.

The Bottom Line

Goosehead Insurance aims to provide national coverage with local representation, and it seems to meet those aims impressively. With more than 80 carriers to choose from, you’re likely to find a home insurance option that meets your needs and budget.

BEWARE of being locked into a contract: I originally worked with a broker/agent of Goosehead. Who at first found me good and normal home and auto policy's. I even switched my flood insurance policy over to them (Even though my home isn't in a 500 year flood zone). However at the end of EACH year the renewal came in from this Westlake Goosehead corporate office. And the renewal rate was ALWAYS increased on all policy's up as much as $1,500. more for a year. We never had a claim, No tickets.. Our flood insurance went up from $500 to almost $900 in 2 years. I went out and got a flood policy for $300. So,, I changed agents and this Goosehead company.. Only to find out they put some type of contact on us, So as other insurance companies had to go through them! When I cancelled Goosehead, they would not respond to my new insurance companies request to end this contract. Until I cancelled the very last contact with them... NOTE: I was never told we were in a contract. NOR would I EVER sign any such contract knowingly: BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE

I had to request a new agent when my agent wouldn't return my calls. The process of changing an agent was near impossible. Good thing I didn't need to file a claim. My insurance was getting ready to renew and my current provider through goosehead doubled the cost of my premiums. I was the one that had to reach out to get the shopping process started. He finally got back with me and quoted me $3640 for 420k coverage with a 2% ded. The other 3 quotes he provided were between $6478 and $8529. My premium that was getting ready to expire was under $2000. Needless to say the customer service lever and the platform you brag about being able to offer your clients is a joke. The proof of this is in the numbers and level of service I just provider you.

I would select zero stars if I could! They do not care about customers, just making commissions. I have to email, call, text what feels like hundreds of times just to get a response. They don't follow up with renews or options, esp with the increasing insurance rates. STAY AWAY!!!!

This company is horrible i signed on with Ricky S Nov 2023 sent all my documents in he set me up with what I thought was a good carrier but on my 2nd premium payment my deduction was $100 more and no one can explain why nor will the carrier honor the premium I was quoted and the same premium they had taken from my account before. You can never get a straight answere or call backs all I get is send a email that goes in a black hole. If I wanted a almost $400 a month premium I would stayed with a well known carrier that I was already with

The first year they were seemingly fine and helpful, but this year for renewals it was IMPOSSIBLE to get in contact with my agent. Long-story-short, they promised me a good quote and when I tried to follow-up it took 2-3 weeks to hear back (while I was rapidly approaching renewal for existing, expensive insurance) and when they tried to submit it, it "wouldn't go through". I didn't even speak with my actual agent, they were too busy for me so they had someone else contact me who clearly had no idea what my situation was. Handle insurance yourself and spare yourself the headache and extra cost of this agency. Thanks to this team, I lost out on several hundreds of dollars in home insurance at another agency because Goosehead was so late in simply returning my calls. Even when I voiced my frustration, I never got the decency of an apology either.

Horrible service. For two years in a row, they did not submit the next year's insurance policy to my mortgage company. I spent hours on the phone each time untangling the mess. They couldn't care less. And why should they? If the policy lapses long enough, they have to draw uo a new one - at that year's higher rates. Absolutely disgusting.

The quote and premium that was given to me for the first yr was amazing! Then the second year is when it all went to **** in a handbasket. First they did not even notify me that there was a increase in my cost. When it came out of my account is when I found out. 2800 to 9000 with no claims. Just because I live in Texas. They have lost me as a client.

I had a great experience with Goosehead for my home insurance when purchasing my last home. I switched from them during Covid because because like so many companies, there was very little phone coverage when to take my calls when questions arose in 2020 and some of 2021. However, now that things are somewhat back to normal, I've received an even better quote than what I had previously and I decided to to return to them for my home AND auto insurance this time.

Terrible company, doesn't communicate, shady business practices. When I first signed up, they failed to inform me of the fee they charge. It was a battle to get that money back. My home insurance rate went up 50% year over year, I made several attempts to contact my agent...crickets. She's no where to be found. Ended up having to shop myself for a better company just to not have to deal with them. Beware, don't use this company!!

They never answer their phone and there isn't an option to leave a message. I hate talking on the phone more than most, but sometimes that is the most efficient form of communication when you NEED a QUICK answer. This isn't the first time this has been an issue with them, but it will be the last. When it's time to renew or shop, we'll be going with someone else.

Absolutely horrible experience! They don't even deserve one star. It all began when they tried to charge me fees when they promised there would be none when I first started speaking to the agent. I was able to get those knocked off the contract when I refused to sign it until they were removed. That was nothing compared to what was to come. When I added home security, I sent in the proof for it to be added to my homeowners insurance policy for the discount. The agent made a mistake and created a new policy for me with Travelers. He never acknowledged it. I sent numerous emails asking for it to be removed because I kept getting alerts that payment was due. They finally went to delete that policy and in doing so, THEY CANCELED MY HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE POLICY. The policy that was fully paid by my mortgage when it began. With zero acknowledgement or notice. I got a check in the mail from Travelers for a large sum of money so I questioned it, logged into my account, and found out that my policy was canceled a week prior. It took numerous phone calls and emails to reach an agent. They said that they would reinstate it the policy. They didn't answer any of my questions about how it would affect my mortgage, never apologized, and never sent confirmations. I called and emailed them for days to make sure it was done properly and got very few email responses that did not answer majority of my questions. I had to get my mortgage lender involved to ensure that their issue did not affect my mortgage. Extreme hassle. How does an insurance broker cancel your homeowners insurance and not tell you or care? I was told I cannot switch until the year is up so the second it comes time to renew my policy I will be running as far away from Goosehead as possible.

Year after year I receive cancellation notices from my HO policy due to lack of payment from our OLD lender. I beg Goosehead every year to update their records with the correct lender information so I don't have to deal with this. They reached out a couple of weeks in advance to let me know they need updated information, which I provided to them same-day. No confirmation or response. I followed up about a week later to make sure they were all set and did not need anything else from me. No response again. I received a cancellation notice from my policyholder and our lender a week later, with two days to get it sorted out. Policyholder still had the incorrect lender information and I had to deal with the headache alone, with no help from Goosehead. Absolutely ridiculous.

Started out wonderful after agent Nick V helped us secure a HO policy on our home we purchased in a historic district. About a month or so later we received a notice of cancellation from the insurer with their citing the home’s historic nature and evidence of a crawlspace foundation as their reasoning. I realize this may be more a fault of the insurer, but why are the agents not asking these questions beforehand if there’s the potential for reasoning of this sort for basis of cancellation or non-insurance positions? Furthermore, I reached out to Mr. V immediately upon receipt of the cancellation notice and it was like pulling teeth for well over a week to get a committed response from him. I was asking him to move mountains - just a simple, “Yes, we received your information and cancellation notice and we are working on ensuring you’ll be safe and secure prior to cancellation taking effect.” Something to that effect was absolutely warranted and we did not receive anything of the sort from him. I left a few text messages, a few emails and a voicemail and was getting nowhere. Mr. V finally reached out to me after I had abandoned any hope of hearing back from him at that point. I had already secured a new policy with a separate insurer from a different local agent who gave me wonderful customer service. I proceeded to explain my position to Mr. V at which point he became a little argumentative with me and stated he had informed me he had received my info and had notified me he was working on it. I did not recall this, but I took him at his word, apologized for my error if that indeed was the case but then told him it still in my mind didn’t excuse the fact that I had repeatedly reached out to him asking him kindly to simply let me know where we stood and I got nothing. I then got a response from him stating something to the effect of, “I have hundreds of clients and lots of cancellations. You had to wait your turn in line and I told you I would get to you.” I’m certainly no customer service guru but I used to work in the service industry for a long time and I’m pretty sure “the customer is always right” still applies in cases such as these. We ended up coming to an understanding and allowed bygones to be bygones and Mr. V did end up providing me with a new quote, but it was too late at that point as we were within a few days of our cancellation and my anxiety was through the roof and we had already settled with a new policy.

This Insurance Company is terrible, they canceled my auto insurance without even notifying me. My auto insurance is combined with my home, the agent that helped me doesn't even know how to do his job.

My experience with Goosehead was similar to the other 1 star reviews posted here. I have had home, auto, umbrella and flood with Goosehead for many years. I've never been too crazy about their customer service, but this year was the last straw. In January, 2024, I got notice that our home and auto were set to renew end of March. Home premium was increasing by literally 50% and auto 35%. Needless to say, I was freaking out. I mean, who can squeeze a 50% premium increase into their budget. I called Goosehead and they tried to make some tweaks to the policy (increase deductibles, etc.), but of course the premium didn't decrease much. I then left a voicemail with the agent, Sarah S to shop different companies for me. That was the end of January. I waited 3 weeks and heard nothing. In the meantime, I was shopping around myself. In the past, I may have called the agent back, but why should I do that? I don't have time to touch base with you AGAIN or hold your hand through this. I understand she may have been busy since I assume most people had an issue with their rates increasing. HOWEVER, she could at least call me back and let me know she got my vm and it's on her list of things to do. What's more is that I was told to renew my homeowner's insurance, I would need to pay $1400. Why on a renewal with the same company (Mercury)? I could understand if we were going with a new insurer. I left an email with a rep about the $1400 and never received a reply. Fast forward to February 20th, 2024, when I found new policies for auto and home on my own that were going to be the same price (auto) that I was paying AND LESS for my home policy. I called Goosehead to cancel my home and auto. I was told I would receive a $150 refund for my auto and a $540 refund for the home policy. Note: we pay monthly for auto and annually for auto. According to my calculations, the home policy refund should be about $100, but since the rep told me $540, I didn't question it. Maybe there was some special insurance thing I didn't know about, even though I'm blessed to be somewhat insurance savvy. Come February 26, 2024, I have 2 refunds in my bank account from Mercury: $150 and $104.42. I called Goosehead and after much time on hold and the rep trying to figure out what was going on, told me $150 was for the auto and $104.42 was for the home. What?! Thankfully, I wasn't counting (not quite yet) on the $540 refund, but where did the original rep come up with $540. The rep didn't know. NOT. COOL. It was all I could do not to break down crying. As I mentioned before, I still have a flood and umbrella policy with Goosehead. I told the rep on the phone that I wanted nothing to do with Goosehead anymore, but apparently I would have to cancel those policies with them and find some on my own. Maybe I will do that. Especially if I see another brokerage fee or any other weird fee to renew those policies. I did it with home and auto. Moral of the story: Don't use Goosehead.

Don’t use this company. I am furious. I made a payment to Goosehead for my flood insurance policy in Aug 2022(due date). On Oct 4th I received a cancellation notice from Progressive for non payment. I contacted Goosehead on Oct 5th and was told the payment would go out overnight express. On Oct 11 2022 I got another cancellation notice from Progressive regarding my flood ins policy. I today (Oct 12th) have been on hold with Progressive to speak with a Mgr for over 2 1/2 hours. The agent that keeps coming back on the line telling me she is trying to get a Mgr told me this happened with another customer of hers and my payment did not go out over night express it went out 5 -7 day mail. So they have had MY money for over a month(since Aug) and then lied to me about sending the payment overnight express. If this has happened to other customers what is this company doing with customers money while the customers are getting cancellation notices. I recommend finding another insurance agency to do business with. I am going to.

There is not much to like about this company. They are great when you are BUYING insurance - they have millions of agents who will help you promptly and the process is pretty easy. From there, it's straight downhill. They do nothing to help you when you have a claim. The paper pushers who process your applications get very little correct and the process becomes a nightmare. When you try to cancel - forget about it. No one will do anything at that point. I was so fed up with not getting calls returned, etc., I tried to call the 1-800 number and heard that the wait time was in excess of 30 minutes. I find that completely unacceptable.

Goosehead lied about a boarded up broken window which needed fixing or they would cancel our policy in two weeks. There's no such broken and boarded up window on our house. They also ignored two separate requests to discuss the matter.
