Comfortable chic and industrial are the two finishes in home style that are really trending right now. Consumers want to invest in pieces that are well made and meant to last. Also big right now is multifunctional furniture that can be used for storage as well as a table, couch or bed. Following is some great advice from Elisabeth Dwyer, a spokesperson for Raymour & Flanigan Furniture. Dwyer gives some great tips on color, kids rooms, eating areas for formal and casual and the master bedroom.
"We're seeing this in dining and entertainment, where the trend seems to be for servers to also be used as entertainment consoles," said Dwyer. "Also in home office where desks are more multifunctional, such as being used for a craft table, and sofa tables can now be used as entertainment consoles."
Accents that have storage such as baskets, drawers and shelves, and cocktail tables that have stools that fit underneath the table for additional seating are very popular. Consumers are moving toward cream neutral fabrics and even more to items with gray tones rather than black and white. Color is back but is used in the accent items as a pop of color.
"The colors are on the accent chairs, pillows and ottomans," Dwyer said. "Blue is a big accent color, I find the accent patterns to have less colors within the fabrics, as in two-tones and not multiple with a lot of colors. The color for 2015 is Marsala (reddish brown), which is a great, very useable color. I do not see many patterns on upholstery except at the higher end."
In the living and family rooms consumers are looking for cleaner and simpler living with big comfy sectionals which offer plenty of space for relaxing.
"The sectional business is huge," said Dwyer. "You can do so much with sectionals today whether it's a space issue or filling a room with maximum seating. The options are endless and can be customized to work in any home or room setting."
There are changes in the formal and informal eating areas as well. The formal dinning sets are getting smaller, the scale is smaller. The large arm chairs are no longer, in their place are side chairs and benches. In the casual dinning area the mixing of metal and wood is very in. The industrial look of metal, wood and concrete with backless stools for chairs is a real hit right now. Above the tables big statement chandeliers are getting attention.
In the bedrooms for the kids and adults there are some changes too. The kids rooms are moving away from bright colors to more earth tones and bigger beds. Out with the twin or full and in with the queen size beds. In the master bedroom beds with storage are the big sellers. Since people are hanging their TV's on the wall Armoires sales are sluggish.
So earth tones, and storage seems to be the big thing this season. Using just a pop of color on a pillow or chair is good when combined with creams and or gray tones. Have fun with your own style and find what works, and will fit, your home.
