OneGreatFamily is a genealogy company which also offers a family tree creator to keep track of ancestry and lineage. It utilizes user input to build a database which you can then tap into by paying for a membership. Having user input allows you to pick up where others left off and collaborate with other family members to have a more accurate picture of your family tree.

The Good

  • Effort to Prevent Duplication
  • Internet-Based Collective Family Tree

Effort to Prevent Duplication

OneGreatFamily will automatically merge two family trees together if it detects duplicate uploads. Additionally, it identifies and eliminates any duplicate data across the site. This ensures that you won’t be adding information that already exists on the site, saving you time when importing your family tree.

Internet-Based Collective Family Tree

Since the service is cloud-based, it is constantly updated whenever somebody enters new information. This keeps all the information up to date and accurate as possible. OneGreatFamily automatically identifies those places in your family tree where other people have information different from yours and helps you resolve those differences quickly and easily.

The Bad

  • Outdated Website
  • Lack of Resources

Outdated Website

The website is outdated, and it seems difficult to navigate. There are a few user guides to help, yet competitors’ sites seem much more intuitive. The user interface is not user friendly as well.

Lack of Resources

OneGreatFamily has fewer than one billion resources, which puts them in the lower bracket of resources when compared to other genealogy companies. The company is constantly improving that number, yet it remains far lower than competitors.

The Bottom Line

While there are some redeeming qualities offered by OneGreatFamily, such as the collaborative aspect and ever-growing database, the website is not intuitive or easy to navigate. It seems like OneGreatFamily is behind its competitors when it comes to design, functionality, and technology.

I signed up for a free trial sometime ago. The description when I did so was completely incorrect. Even after calling them, charges appeared on my credit card.|It was impossible to cancel and I had to cancel my credit card. The resources were useless. With one click I accidentally received so called matches that made my little family tree expand back to early times in Finland. And I mean early. No citations. Just supposed ancestors linked. Do not recommend, ever.
