Seven-Figure Peace of Mind for Airbnb Hosts

newswriter_main7Accidents happen, so here's $1 million in liability insurance for Airbnb hosts. Although Airbnb says it is unlikely that property owners will experience any issues with damage on Airbnb, it acknowledges that hosts may need protection. It's the latest example of Airbnb's commitment to helping create a safe and trusted community around the world.

What does the Host Guarantee protect?

The Host Guarantee provides protection for up to $1 million in damages to an eligible property in the rare event of guest damages which are not resolved directly with the guest (in specific countries). These payments are subject to certain conditions, limitations and exclusions, of course.

The guarantee payment request form can be submitted online so hosts seeking payment under the Host Guarantee agree to cooperate with Airbnb and its insurers, including providing documentation of the loss they're claiming and agreeing to inspection in the rare cases it may be necessary.

What does the Host Guarantee not protect?

The Host Guarantee is not insurance and should not be considered as a replacement or stand-in for homeowners or renters insurance. The Host Guarantee does not protect:

  • cash and securities
  • pets
  • personal liability
  • shared or common areas
  • Certain types of personal property, such as jewelry, collectibles and artwork have more limited protections. Hosts may want to secure or remove such valuables when renting their homes, and may want to consider independent insurance to cover such items.
  • The Host Guarantee does not protect reasonable wear and tear. Hosts can take advantage of Airbnb's user-friendly system to implement a security deposit to protect wear and tear, if they'd like.
