Dazzling Amazon Digital Content Deals
As a way to increase Christmas week sales, Amazon announced a series of digital content deals for mobile device owners. This announcement comes along with optimistic news about holiday sales with signs pointing to a record 2014 holiday online shopping season.
Amazon is cutting prices on digital content in its Appstore, Amazon Instant Video, Amazon Music and Kindle Books with discounts ranging from 50 to 85 percent. Many deals run through the end of December. Amazon is also offering deals on select Amazon devices such as Fire TV.
From Wednesday through Friday, Amazon Appstore will offer a number of paid apps and games for free in what’s billed as Amazon’s biggest-ever “Free App of the Day” bundle, with savings of up to $220. Until Christmas day, Amazon Instant Video is also offering up to 50 percent off holiday and kids’ movies and TV shows.
Amazon Prime members can also access a free playlist of holiday music from Amazon Music. Non-Prime customers will also be able to listen to a select list of free holiday songs by clicking at the top of Amazon pages as they shop through Christmas day. In addition, popular Kindle books from best-selling authors will be sold at discounts of up to 85 percent from Christmas to New Years Day. For a limited time, shoppers can also get deep discounts on Fire TV, the Fire HD 7 tablet, the Kindle e-reader and Kindle Paperwhite devices.
U.S. e-commerce orders in the first two weeks of December increased 16.5 percent as compared to the year-earlier period, with revenue up 15.6 percent, according to data issued by Custora, the predictive analytics firm. It indicates that the final stretch of the 2014 holiday season points to record-breaking online shopping, with growth squarely in the mid-teens for the sector.
