Revered personal trainer Jillian Michaels has been in the fitness business since 1993. She developed her Body Revolution series at the beginning of 2012, incorporating elements of kickboxing, yoga, pilates and weight training into her routine. Jillian has been a regular trainer on the popular reality TV show "Biggest Loser," helping scores of overweight people achieve healthy weights and lifestyles. Jillian has produced many other fitness DVDs and books in addition to Body Revolution.

The Good

Body Revolution is a 90-day, three-phase diet and fitness program. The phase method allows even those who have previously been out of shape to build up stamina and strength while they gradually prepare themselves for the next level. The videos show modifications for each exercise so the program can be tailored to suit any fitness level and physical ability.

The program includes strength training, muscle conditioning and cardio exercises that work all the muscle groups in your body. You'll receive a guide that helps you alternate workouts between the 5 DVDs you'll receive for each phase of the program - this rotation keeps you from getting bored and allows one area of your body to heal while you're working out another part. Body Revolution also incorporates a concept called metabolic training, which Jillian says keeps your metabolism burning high for up to 16 hours after your last workout.

Each Body Revolution exercise circuit only takes 30 minutes and is designed to easily be done at home. It is super convenient for those who lead busy lives and find it difficult to make it to the gym. The workouts are meant to be done six days a week.

In addition to the fitness guide, Body Revolution also comes with a step-by-step meal plan to complement your workout regimen. The recipes are healthy, incorporate wallet-friendly ingredients and are easy enough for the less kitchen-savvy to prepare. The program also includes a journal to track your eating habits and weight loss.

Another benefit of the Body Revolution fitness program is the exclusive access to the Jillian Michaels online community that is included in the price. The intensity of the Body Revolution workouts increases with each one. If you're progressing at a slower pace or not consistent with your workouts, you may find yourself falling behind in the program.

In addition, Body Revolution is designed to be done for 30 minutes, six days a week. If you can't commit to the program six days a week, you may not advance as quickly as the program dictates or you may not see results as quickly.

Body Revolution is only a 90-day program, so if you're looking for a long-term fitness and diet solution, you'll either have to repeat the program or move on to another one. However, Jillian Michaels does offer several other fitness DVDs, including kickboxing, yoga, abs-focused and fat-burning workouts.

The Bottom Line

Body Revolution offers a progressive plan, nutrition guidance and a robust online support system. Although the program would rank higher if it could be sustained long term, we're confident that it will produce results if you commit to both the schedule and diet.
