LA Fitness is my choice of fitness centers. Clean and not over crowded are my highest criteria. I originally chose them for the choice of locations and the fact that they were one of the few fitness centers that included racquetball courts.

Overpriced and money hungry. LA Fitness pressures people into getting yearly contracts. I have never felt so pushed to buy than when I went take a tour of the facilities. Facilities are extremely nice but I felt very out of element for a new person to working out. Employees were also very rude and I will not be back.

It's a typical gym but with a weird culture. Their policies have some strange restrictions on appearance and behavior that seem to ironically shame people for normal gym behaviors. I've been a couple times and I like that they don't force long-term contracts, but I would rather not go there.

Just for those who do not know and pay for the planet fitness black card there's a trick they have! They advertise you can go to any club and work out if you pay the extra $10 dollars, but what they don't tell you is you can only go up to 10 times in a month to the gym unless you pay an additional $5 dollars per visit. Stupid in my opinion. If you are trying to get fit do the math and you can probably go to a better-quality gym cheaper

The Final Word

If you are looking for a company that will provide you with the lowest price around, you should be looking at Planet Fitness. The basic monthly fee for Planet Fitness is as low as it gets. If you are concerned about hidden fees, it is important to remember that the monthly fee is saving a significant amount of money each month making up for this small hidden fee of $29.

If you are looking for a local gym in the California area that has been in business since 1984, then we would recommend looking at LA Fitness. Unfortunately, there is a $89 upfront cost as well as $29.99 monthly fees which is triple what you would pay if you went with Planet Fitness.

Customers of both gyms have rated them almost exactly the same. If you are going to choose between these two gyms, we would recommend taking advantage of the low pricing with Planet Fitness and at least starting there with the free trial. Planet Fitness has been in business since 1992 and has provided service to a number of people for a fraction of the cost that other gyms charge.
