Founded on November 15, 2014, Vasa Gym is a Utah-based fitness center chain focused on providing an inspiration fitness experience to all types of consumers, for all skill levels, with a mission to uplift anyone who walks through the doors through fun, happy fitness. Vasa has 23 locations across Utah with a brand promise of having the best gym prices in the state. The word “Vasa” comes from the Latin term for “vessel.” Vasa Fitness currently has over 150,000 gym family members in Utah and opened its doors to eight new facilities in Colorado, one in Kansas, and one in Oklahoma.
Memberships can be purchased as low as $9.99 monthly for the basic plan; however, basic plans do not come with access to fitness classes, group fitness, or personal trainers. For those seeking classes and other amenities such as child care and access to ball courts, intramural activities, and steam rooms, the fitness plus plan at $21.99 monthly would be the best option. If you are interested in taking your fitness to the next level with a number of team training sessions and InBody composition scans, you can invest in the Vasa Fit plan with a monthly fee of $49.99 per month. This plan does not require an initiation fee and the 1st month is free while you make sure that it is something that you are interested in.
It is not uncommon for people to want to be able to bring a friend or family member with them to the gym. Vasa provides the opportunity for members to pay an extra $15.99 per month for unlimited access for guests. Each time that you attend the gym or facility, you are able to bring 2 guests with you. Your guest pass will provide them access to the facility
Child Care is $3.00 per 90 minutes per visit or $10 per month for the first child and $5 per month each additional child added. (It must be set up through automatic billing at the club). There are also additional charges for picking up your child late. Racquetball is complimentary for all Vasa memberships except Basic. An additional $10.00 guest fee will be charged per participant if they are not a VASA Member or if they are a Basic member. Overall, we found Vasa's membership fees to be much more affordable than many of their competitors whose monthly fees can get as high as $150 or more.
There have not been any complaints online regarding upfront fees for any of Vasa's membership packages. We found many gyms require upfront fees upon joining/signing up for a membership with fees as high as $300. With such low monthly fees to begin with, Vasa beats the competition in this regard. Enrollment in the basic membership requires a $49.00 enrollment fee and the fitness and vasa fit plans do not have extra fees.
Each Vasa Fitness center offers independent classes ranging from cycling, pilates, and Zumba, to HIIT, R.I.P.P.E.D. and Power Pump, and water-exercise programs such as aerobics and Zumba. Vasa is the only fitness center offering CardioCinema, allowing runners to watch movies during their workout. Members can enjoy a vast array of fitness options such as aerobic classes, cardio equipment, cardio cinema rooms, free weights and strength training machines, private personal training, and group fitness sessions. Customers across the board are pleased with the number and selection of classes offered.
Exclusive access to personal trainers is available for members at an additional fee. Sessions are 60 minutes and trainers provide education on the use of equipment, cardio exercise, supplements, weight lifting, resistance training, and healthy lifestyle nutrition tips. Vasa takes an innovative approach by using a Visual Fitness Planner which assess the likelihood of contracting various diseases and cancer, calculates chronological age against seven health risk factors determining a "true health age," as well as showing members a 3D image of their bodies' potential change through weight loss and muscle growth.
Another aspect setting Vasa apart is its attempt to make a difference in local communities by charitable donations and programs helping families and individuals get and stay healthy. Vasa offers free weekend passes to anyone coming in, in hopes to attain new clientele. Previously yearly passes have been given to winners of nominated families who communities deem deserving. The gym also provides a blog on its company website educating consumers with healthy tips as well as information on trainers.
Other amenities the company offers at their fitness centers include pool, Jacuzzi, tanning, hot tub, sauna, tennis courts, massage beds, daycare, free weights area, and functional strength training areas. Depending on the location, there may be one or more amenities that are not offered. We found this to be a downside, since the majority of the locations are in the same state/region. A plus is the variety of amenities offered. Many of the fitness centers we reviewed had the basic pool, Jacuzzi, and sauna. The wide variety of amenities that Vasa offers are typically for more expensive high end gyms.
Vasa also charges penalty fees if a member sets up automatic payments and the card used doesn't function properly. A $40 fee will be charged, even while not being under contract. Make sure that your card is working and that you are in touch with customer service if you are concerned with being overcharged. The sooner you get in, the better your chance of being helped. If you are looking to cancel your membership you will be charged $40 on top of the other monthly fees or contract fees that you will need to pay. An annual fee of $39.99 is charged each year which is considered the "rate guarantee fee". Vasa should work to factor these costs into the monthly price instead of making the cancellation process more confusing.
According to several dissatisfied customer complaints scattered on the web, once under contract there is simply no possible way to get out of it, not even with cold hard cash, unless members can provide proof they have moved outside of a 25-mile radius of each of their 33 gym locations. Once proof has been provided, there is still the chance that fees for service during the closing of the account will be charged. When you contact your local gym or Vasa customer service to cancel, make sure that you know exactly you will be required to pay upon cancellation.
Equipment for most Vasa locations is fairly new and the gyms are large and well-maintained. Some customers have complained that there aren't enough machines to handle busy high-traffic hours (i.e. after work crowd). Also, some gym locations have old or broken equipment. For example, one customer complained to the Vasa management on three separate occasions about the broken stationary bikes in their CardioTheater which were Out of Order or in a poor state of functioning. Having to wait to use equipment during rush hours is a common issue we found for many fitness centers in addition to the equipment being old, broken or outdated. This still puts Vasa at less-than-excellent in this area.
Vasa's cleanliness policy states that if a piece of equipment is broken or an area of the gym is not clean, for members to report it to the front desk immediately. Many have complained of the sanitary situation at some facilities stating the floors are covered with dirt and hair for days. Other complaints have been made about safety issues, having power cords and strips showing open wires, providing proof on social media sites. Complaints of doors not opening on time, causing members to request a prorated amount for membership costs. Many members including students have also complained of the hours of operation in Utah County and facilities being closed on Sundays.
VASA is a good example of a greedy company that does its best to screw the customer over as sneakily as possible while doing the bare minimum to provide a service. This is evident in the manner in which VASA does business. They will tell you that the membership costs $9.99 a month, but really this is misleading. You are also charged a yearly "facility improvement fee" of $64.09 so really the monthly membership cost is upwards of $15. In addition, when I went to cancel my membership, I was told that I had to give them 30 days notice, but this is yet another trick. VASA does not prorate and so they really get between 1-2 months out of you if once you cancel. If you cancel on the 2nd of the month, they will charge you a whole second month after the first thirty days since your cancellation went into the second month one day. These guys are shady crooks - stay away!
Forget To Pay Your Dues And They Will Send It To Collections, Would Not Recommend This Gym
Vasa is a bit intimidating. I don't feel totally comfortable working out at most Vasas because the clientele are scary boys.
Don’t ever upgrade your membership because they won’t ever let you downgrade but they’ll make you think that they changed it. Make sure you check how much they’re charging you each month.
I had an issue with a membership problem and they fixed it for me immediately. The space can get pretty crowded, but the equipment is great.
I love that when you have a Vasa membership you can go to any Vasa, not just the one that is closest to where you live. I love the variety of fitness classes offered as well as the instructors.
The free weight section of Vasa is one of my favorite things about the facility. I've tried other gyms and a lot of them don't have a free weight section and i hate that. I also love all the add ons that come with it, such as tanning, saunas, classes, etc.
Vasa’s friendly employees encourage and motivate me to come back and achieve my goals for a good montly price.
There are so many opportunities at vasa fitness for whatever your needs may be. But there are also lots of people there. I would rather not have as many people in the same gym at one time.
This gym is great when you go at a good time of the day when not many people are there. They have every machine you can think of and it is such a big gym. They keep it super clean.
The gym setup is great, the environment. Obviously there's nothing you can do about the environment but I still don't enjoy vasa.
I don’t like the experience I have when I go to Vasa. I’ve tried to go several times and have never liked it. The facility is alright but the people, including employees, are not inviting.
I currently work out here five days a week. The machines are always clean and in proper working order. The pool and spa are kept immaculate.
best place to get a great work out, the machines are always upkept and the workers are so nice and very helpful. getting a membership was simple and renewing was also way nice and easy
I felt I was pulled in with the special Holiday deal then when I needed to cancel for medical reasons they would not allow me to. It was months of writing letters and talking to mangers etc. I have since then cancelled my membership completely.
Vasa is an amazing gym the one I gotta has a swimming pool and basketball courts. All the equipment is always organized and not sweaty. Perfect gym
Haven’t had a good experience at vasa. Always very crowded. Once waited 20 min for a pair of dumbbells (would have used 5-25lbs and it took 20 min for one to come available) and it was 1 pm on a Thursday!
Don’t bother unless you have money to burn. I tried for months to move the withdrawal date and for months they charged an extra $48.54 EVERY MONTH!! I finally canceled and although I’m not on a contract they charged me $120.62 and refused any type of refund.
This company as a whole also has a poor understanding of month to month and what 24hr means, I work until midnight and on weekends, I expected to be able to go to the gym anytime for $30 a month this was not the case, they closed on weekends. Then after deciding there wasn't enough value to keep going after only a month and a half. It cost me $150 to cancel despite calling and sending emails as per their instructions. There are lots of options for gyms in the area at this cost I would have hoped for a better experience and more honesty. I even recorded calls had screenshot and saved emails. They also tried to claim my card declined until I called in. Very dishonest and poor customer service experience!
I’ve had a membership to Vasa for about a year now and I love it! They have all sorts of machines and free weights and a great selection of treadmills and ellipticals.
The employees at this gym are always more than willing to help you out, and the machinery is always in good condition!
Not a fan. Went in to get a membership, and the customer service was not good. Everyone there was a typical gym "bro" and wouldnt give you the time of day unless you looked like them. Very true to the stereotypes given to this gym.
They are popular enough for me to use their gyms, but I had a personal trainer and then my appendix burst and they kept charging me for it. Then they sent me to collections and didn’t budge at all in understanding my situation, before that I was happy to go and use their facilities. Now I only go if there’s a basketball game to play.
A place to workout at and that’s kinda about it. The classes are good but not my favorite place to go.
Love them. A great facility, great prices too. Keep it up Vasa! Will keep coming.
Going to the gym is such a hard thing to do, but Vasa makes it a comfortable and fun experience. And the facilities are so clean which’s makes it a better experience to go.
Okay. I feel like their marketing is a bit misleading. there are a ton of set up fees they don't tell you about. But after all that it's fairly affordable. I'm pretty sure there is a cancellation fee though. I've only had a membership once but will probably not return.
Way too crowded!! The place is huge and it is always packed. Great instructors but classes are over crowded. Hated the environment. Kind of bugged that it costs $40 to cancel my membership.
Vasa is an incredible gym with a good atmosphere, I never feel like I'm wasting money or being ripped off. It is kept very clean and sanitary. They have a wide selection of machines and space to get the workout I need in.
LOVE THIS PLACE! so many nice people that work there and that go and workout with me. Its awesome that they have so much equipment in their gym so that i can do many different workouts. its an amazing place.
Vasa fitness is the only place I will go to workout. There facilities are always very clean. And makes a fun workout environment.
Vasa gives you a good price but I haven't loved it there. Often, the equipment I want to use is out of order and it takes weeks to get it fixed. It is crowded and can be intimidating.
I have only been to Vasa a few times, but what I have seen the facility is fairly good. There was a variety of exercise equipment. Even with the early morning busy hours, there was a lot of extra equipment that I could use. There were wipes so I could clean before and after equipment use.
Going to the gym was always a appropriate experience for going to a gym. However, cancelling was a terrible experience. We moved out of state in June and in September, realized that we were still being charged our monthly fee, despite my attempting to cancel in July. I called their customer service number to try and have it taken care of. I got a confirmation page that it was cancelled however I did not get an email. The lady on the line informed me that they had no record of my ever trying to cancel and that I could no be reimbursed the money we were charged because they have no record of my ever even trying to cancel. I became upset when she told me in order to cancel I would have to go through the online process AGAIN. I was concerned that it would not go through again and she let me know that VASA has no direct customer service representatives (they hire out to Paramount) that have any power to actually help you with any of your issues, cannot cancel or reimburse you and you can only cancel online (hoping it goes through). She was patient with me despite my frustration, however, VASA is now on my black list. I will encourage all of my friends who ask to find a different gym if they don't want to be weaseled out of any amount of money and have no power to get it back as VASA does not even have people you can call to help you. They use a middle man to give you the bad news. Cowardice business management.
I play tennis at Vasa and the workers are always very kind, my membership is a very reasonable price, and the coaches are helpful and informative.
I cannot expression how disappointed I am with Vasa. I haven't even set foot in the fitness center and I already have a horrible experience. My account has been charged twice and they will not refund the amount at all. They told me to go to the website and updated my information because I had a problem with my bank. Which I did and it never went through. So I had to pay the 98 bucks with the 25 dollar fee that they said they would wavie the amount. I asked after going through all this, the lady told me they will not and cannot refund the amount at all. That their company will not do that! What company can't refund amount. Not to mention my account was charged again for 70 bucks, from the first try of getting my account set up correctly! Just horrible management and I cannot go to the fitness center to get help, because they will tell you to call the number to their accounting department. I have canceled my membership and will never go back. Chuze Fitness is a lot amazing place compare to Vasa Fitness. I've had problems and they were gladly able to help and actually has better rewards that you can achieve as well. DO NOT GO TO THIS GYM. they just care about money!
Great for the price, and you can usually find a promotion going on to get a good deal. Their facilities are nice and clean with convenient hours.
You can not beat their price. For $10 month I am able to have access to a great gym, tons of machines, friendly staff, and a healthier body. Best gym around.
Vasa has saved me winter after winter so I can continue training for races! Can't beat the price each month either!
Great GYM not very expensive compared to the others out there.
VASA is a great workout company, but my brother has a pass to go in but they wouldn’t let home in. He’s gone before but lately they haven’t let him go in. This is really bad for he’s the strongest person I know. VASA is a good place just sometimes they screw things up. We paid for that pass fair and square and they won’t let him in!!
Love having a $10 monthly fee I just don’t like the initial set up fee or the yearly fee. They are both a little steep!
Me and my family really like Vasa. I liket that they have those aqua massaging chairs, we come and relax there for a little bit after a mean workout. The workers are very friendly and willing to help whenever they see that you may be lost or need help.
Overall a good 3.5 star gym. Better than 24 HR and not quite as good as Golds (although many like Vasa better) Pros: Price, clean, A/C is kept at a perfect 71-72 degrees, quality equipment, decent amount of classes, friendly staff, racquetball and basketball courts, hydro massage chairs Cons: Crowded, small pool (always crowded), poorly designed sauna, street shoes and workout clothes worn in sauna/steam rooms, and people who only pay the $9.99 but use all of the facilities (staff is way too busy to check on this)
I love the new attitude and branding of VASA. The American Fork gym is very friendly.
I currently have a vasa membership. I love it. The exercise class room could be a little cleaner though.
Some of the locations are kind of dirty, but they seem to try and take better care of the equipment than Gold Gym used to do.
i always enjoy the classes they provide. i really like the zumba class. instructor is always upbeat and energetic. workers are always welcoming and smiling.
Great gym at a great price. Many locations to chose from and everything I need to work out.
Inexpensive place to work out with lots of amenities. Because it’s so cheap it’s usually always busy, though.
