The Good

  • Classes and Scheduling
  • Personal Training
  • Membership Options

Classes and Scheduling

One of the greatest challenges for people who want to maintain their physical health without prior experience is the motivation to do it by themselves. Retro Fitness offers a number of fitness classes to help each customer have a wide range of exercise and training options. These classes include the following, varying slightly depending on location:

  • Dance Classes
  • Zumba
  • Strength and Conditioning
  • Circuit Workout
  • Body Pump
  • Cardio Classes
  • Cycling
  • Cardio Step
  • Yoga
  • Bodyflow
  • Les Mills
  • Martial Arts
  • Body Combat
  • Kickboxing

If you are looking for a specific class being taught at your local Retro Fitness gym, you can find the class schedule online on the Retro Fitness webpage. This schedule not only shows which fitness classes are being taught each day, but it shows the times, the staff, and trainers who will be teaching, and gives an option to sign up and reserve a spot for each class.

Personal Training

Retro Fitness not only provides personal training in one-on-one situations, but also group and team training opportunities. Each of these training options offers perks to gym members.

  • One-on-One Training — Personal trainers help each customer to conquer their goals. ONE sessions are customized programs that help each and every rep to count to maximize results.
  • Small Group Training — For those who are interested in the high energy and healthy competition of working out with a group, the STRONG training provides the support of a group along with individualized attention from a personal coach/staff trainer.
  • Team Training — Allowing members to be part of something bigger, the TEAM conditioning provides a high-energy training curriculum in a large group atmosphere. As a team, everyone is able to achieve more.

As part of the personal training programs offered by Retro Fitness, the gym also offers options to track your progress. State of the art technology and equipment are used to monitor heart rate, analyze nutrition, and a rewards program instills even greater incentives for gym members.

Membership Options

Unlike most other franchises, the Retro Fitness Franchise does not have the same membership plans at all of its locations. Each location has three membership options to choose from, but they are not consistent among all Retro Fitness locations.

The following summary provides general descriptions of what these three options might look like:

  • The Basic Membership — Being the most consistent of these plans, the monthly fee for the Basic Membership plan is $19.99. An annual fee between $19.99–$49.99 is charged to the customer's account 136 days after the membership start date. The monthly fee includes tax. Often promo codes are available to help with the enrollment fee or first monthly fee. This plan does not include group fitness classes.
  • Annual VIP Membership — An Annual Membership typically requires a 12-month contract. This membership often will come with access to all Retro Fitness locations as well as child services, tanning (if available), group fitness and exercise classes, and fitness assessments.
  • Month to Month VIP Membership — The Month to Month VIP membership can cost anywhere from $30.19–$49.99 (depending on location). This membership does not require a contract commitment past the last paid month. Access to all Retro Fitness locations is included as well as child sitting, tanning (if available), group exercise classes, and fitness assessments. Services can only be used at your home location.
  • Team Monthly Membership — Costing about $59.99 per month, the Team Monthly Membership is an annual plan with unlimited classes and guest privileges. It also includes a free personal training session and access to all Retro Fitness Coaches.

Other plans may be advertised depending on location and management. Check online to see what specific membership plans are available.

The Bad

  • Cancellation

According to a number of Retro Fitness reviews, one of the major complaints with Retro Fitness customer service is the complication in canceling gym memberships. Members who have attempted to cancel have run into a number of issues. Some mentioned that they were charged for a number of months after cancelling. Others were charged fees during periods in which their accounts were frozen. For those who moved away from the city or state where their gym was located, they were charged fees even after providing either medical paperwork or proof of employment. If you are worried about having to pay extra charges when attempting to cancel your membership, you may need to be wary of this gym.

The Bottom Line

If you are looking for a good gym in the fitness industry that provides you the opportunity to participate in a number of classes or work with personal trainers, this could be a great option for you. The Retro Fitness gym franchise will work with anyone with the desire to maximize physical fitness results. If you are worried about a processing fee, annual fee, or maintenance fee, it could be advantageous for you to do a bit more research before entering into a contract with on of the Retro Fitness gyms.

It's been great! The workers at the desk are always willing to answer your questions and always greet me with a smile. I would like some other workout equipment such as a sled. I hope they continue to improve.

I've never been a member of a Retro Fitness, but I used one of the gyms for a few months while I was stationed for training in Newark, Delaware. The price was OK. A little higher than I was expecting. The gym equipment was all right on top of each other and not much room to move around. Depending on times, I had to wait for equipment. The place looked bigger than it was.

I love Retro Fitness. They were the first and only gym membership I've ever purchased, and I've never had a problem as a member there. They have great packages available, reliable equipment, and a very clean facility.

Love the cardio cinema in my local retro fitness. It is now the only way I will do cardio.
