Each of our reviews, scores, and rankings is derived from our proprietary Ranking Criteria™. We do not have any relationships with companies that guarantee position, rank or score—and we never will. Like many sites, we are compensated through affiliate relationships with each company we review; however, our Ranking Criteria™, along with real customer reviews from people like you, ensure we remain honest and unbiased. How we rank for

15% Price

Each company has its own pricing options, fees, and membership tiers. We evaluate this factor based on how much “bang for your buck” you get – meaning more benefits and more membership features at a lower price equal a higher score. We looked at the pricing structure for each company and analyzed how much customer’s were charged on a recurring basis. The companies that offered more value for less fared the best in our price ranking.

6% Advertisement Features

For the small up and coming ecommerce businesses. Showing that you’re trusted by big name brands like Google and Amazon where most ecommerce comes from is crucial.
This criteria is indicating availability of advertisement features such as Google Trusted Stores, Discount Codes, Amazon or Ebay integration, Google or Bing Adword credits, and CRM capability.

10% Storage Space and Product Limit

Each eCommerce platform has varying pricing packages, and subsequently, varying storage space available. Typically, the lower priced packages have less storage space than the more expensive packages allow for more storage space. The range of storage space available allows those interested in utilizing an eCommerce platform to gauge what package they will need to host their products.

Pricing packages also determine how many products can be displayed and sold through the platform. Some platforms allow for an unlimited number of products while others have a cap.

10% SSL Encryption Level

With increasing cyber security threats, the level of security is important to those using the eCommerce platform and their customers. SSL encryption levels indicate how secure the eCommerce platform is. The higher the encryption level, the higher score.

The ranking criteria is developed through market research and consumer feedback. The consumer feedback suggested that the following criteria items were important in making a decision regarding eCommerce platforms:

6% Web Tools

Social media can be a powerful advertisement tool; does the ecommerce platform provide easy-to-use social media tools for all major platforms? This criteria point covers basic web tool features available to ecommerce users such as social media, SEO, and other analytic tools.

5% Customer Support

Customer Service is often the biggest relatable complaint from consumers about a company’s service. We look for multiple channels that customer’s can receive support, average wait time, and how helpful the support is.

11% Payment and Security

For this criteria, we look for several features that companies should offer, such as SSL certificates, PCI compliance, and payment gateway options and transaction fees. These security items should be highly considered when choosing a company to work with. Companies that offers these will rank higher because they demonstrate their interest in the security of their customers personal information.

12% Mobile Commerce

Almost all online market data will tell you how fast mobile is growing and becoming the leading device for shopping. Ecommerce platforms need to be mobile, responsive for users, and manageable from mobile on the back-end for businesses.

10% Stability Score

We look at the legal history and financial stability of each company. This metric takes into consideration any bankruptcies, class action lawsuits, government lawsuits, or government investigations a company has had in the last five years.

15% User Score

Authentic user reviews are critical to what we’re doing at BestCompany.com. Because customer service is an important reflection of a company overall, nobody can provide better insights about a company’s performance than actual customers. Consequently, every company’s overall score is influenced, at least in part, by reviews submitted by customers.
