The Good

Total Uptime offers four service packages, as well as custom pricing options. Each package is paid annually and includes secondary DNS support, full access to all of their security features, and 24x7x365 customer support. Customers can add additional domains ($10/month per 10 domains), queries ($15/month per 1 million queries), failover pools ($5/month for each one), and other features as needed.

Standard Package:

  • $23/month
  • 99.99% Service Level Agreement (SLA) uptime
  • 500,000 monthly queries
  • 2 domains
  • No DNS failover pools
  • 5 DNS footprint nodes (global datacenters hosting the domains)

Professional Package:

  • $39/month
  • 100% SLA uptime
  • 1 million monthly queries
  • 10 domains
  • 10 DNS failover pools
  • 16 DNS footprint nodes

  • 50 DNS failover pools
  • 32 DNS footprint nodes

Enterprise Package:

  • $499/month
  • 100% SLA uptime

  • 500 domains
  • 100 DNS failover pools
  • 32 DNS footprint nodes

Total Uptime has over 500 servers in 32 datacenters scattered across 17 countries, including England, Spain, The Netherlands, Brazil, Japan, Singapore, Canada, Australia, and several locations in the United States. Each of their datacenters meet internationally recognized standards. They use IP Anycast routing technology with multiple Anycast clusters to increase availability. Their DNS response time is 30 milliseconds or less globally, and that number will go down in the United States and Europe.

One of Total Uptime’s most attractive features is their DNS failover service. This service ensures that customers’ applications and websites are always available. If a primary server becomes unavailable, traffic is automatically rerouted to a pre-defined pool of servers, eliminating downtime. Each service package comes with a number of failover pools, from zero to 100.

Total Uptime offers a web-based DNS management portal with full control to their clients. There are several security measures designed to protect both customers’ websites and the DNS. They have network-based security features such as built-in DDoS protection, as well as account-level security features such as multiple login accounts, role-based access, two-factor authentication, and a change-log.

Total Uptime boasts and delivers on 24x7x365 (or 24xForever) customer service. They have phone numbers, a mailing address, and a live chat on their webpage, as well as an email response form with an advertised and genuine 30-minute response time. While calls are routed first through their call center, inquiries by phone or email are directed to actual engineers who know and fully understand the products and services offered by Total Uptime. Their support team can literally be reached at anytime from anywhere.

The Bad

Although Total Uptime has been around for a few years and it well-established across the globe, they are not currently one of the leading DNS service providers. This can make it difficult to find objective information on them from outside sources; however, again, the lack of complaints and negative reviews is evidence that they follow through on their business promises.

Total Uptime offers several DNS service packages, but their pricing is a little higher than the pricing for some of their competitors. Their service prices are also listed at a monthly rate but must be paid annually; otherwise, the actual monthly rate is higher, sometimes significantly so. They offer quite a bit with their packages and provide high-quality services; however, there are several features that come with an extra fee or require additional cost.

The Bottom Line

Total Uptime Technologies boasts—and delivers—reliable, 100% uptime DNS service. Their 32 datacenters around the world make it possible for them to provide fast DNS response times and zero outages. Their DNS failover service allows for automatic rerouting when servers become unavailable, and they offer a web-based management platform that gives clients full control over their settings and applications. Total Uptime has four main service packages that range from $23/month to $499/month (paid annually) and from 2 domains to 500 domains. Their packages also come with a set number for monthly queries, failover pools, and footprint nodes, and include security features such as unlimited user accounts, role-based access controls, and dual-factor authentication. Total Uptime offers around-the-clock support and uses actual engineers, instead of salespeople, to answer questions and help customers. Their pricing is competitive and a little higher than at some other companies; however, they provide a full range a quality services for those amounts.

We have used Total Uptime for 2 years now to fail inbound traffic between two ISPs at our office. They very much get a 10 since it has worked flawlessly and saved our a$$ when our Comcast line went down just after Christmas for 4 days straight.
