Services All 50 States
There are few companies in the debt consolidation industry that offer their services to all 50 states by phone and internet. Often these companies do not make this information public. We appreciate the fact that GreenPath is transparent with this information. We also appreciate that more customers can use their services with their broad availability.
Memberships and Accreditations
The memberships and accreditation of GreenPath Debt Solutions shows that the organization is an active member of the debt consolidation community. GreenPath Debt Solutions is a part of the following organizations:
- Council on Accreditation (COA)--Accredited
- National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC)--Member
- Homeownership Preservation Foundation--Partner
This shows that GreenPath Debt Solutions is willing to maintain industry standards and best practices.
Financial Tools and Resources
Consumers working with GreenPath Debt Solutions have access to different tools and resources to help them improve their financial situation and financial education. Some of the resources available to consumers include GreenPath University which offers financial calculators, videos, webinars, and eLearning. Another resource available to consumers is the "Write on the Money" blog which provides expert tips and insight on different financial obstacles.
Low Monthly Fee
Another great aspect about the company is its low monthly fee. The company charges $0 to $75 per month for account maintenance, which is lower than what many other companies in the industry charge.
- Limited Physical Locations
- Customer Complaints
- Additional Fees
Limited Physical Locations
GreenPath Debt Solutions does not physically cover all 50 states. The nonprofit only has 60 branch offices in 16 states such as Florida, Texas, and Illinois. Consumers outside of these 16 states will not have access to GreenPath's in-person counseling. States that do not have a GreenPath Debt Solutions location include Alaska and Hawaii. Online services are available nationwide, but we would like to see more physical locations. Costumers who are not tech-savvy or prefer the option of in-person services would benefit greatly if there were more branches available in more states.
Complaints including billing/collection issues as well as problems with the services provided by GreenPath Debt Solutions. The billing issues may be because GreenPath does not make average interest rates available to people who are not paying for their services. GreenPath could probably avoid some customer issues if they were more transparent with some of their information like prices and average interest rates.
GreenPath Debt Solutions requires consumers to get a credit report which is not free. All of the services that consumers need to achieve their financial goals have fees with the exception of one free debt counseling session. Choosing GreenPath Debt Solutions may not be the best option for consumers deep in debt wanting to reduce their total monthly expenses.
The Bottom Line
GreenPath Debt Solutions has services comparable to other debt consolidation companies including credit counseling, videos, and webinars. The organization is a member of the NFCC. While GreenPath Debt Solutions has many positives, it has some issues that we cannot ignore. Some of these issues include complaints about billing and services rendered, and the extra fees for items that should be included in the price. We cannot recommend GreenPath at this time.
