Tauck River Cruising is a family-owned cruise line owned by Connecticut-based tour company Tauck World Discovery that provides personalized cruising combined with cultural land exploration. Travelers receive personalized attention from the captain and crew aboard the company's nine vessels. The vessels feature wrought iron, marble, brass, teak, and glass decor and the large ship is equipped to carry 130 passengers.
- Offshore excursions
- Great destinations
- Dining options
Tauck River Cruising is all-inclusive, including offshore excursions and dining ashore. The ships feature an intimate club-like atmosphere, with a maximum passenger capacity of 130 people. The company features themed river cruises, family adventures, and land journeys for people of all ages to enjoy. On-board entertainment includes presentations from local experts and cultural performances from local artists. Activities for families include a trail ride at Bryce Canyon, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, gondola ride in Venice, and a speedboat adventure on the Thames. The Tuack Cruise Protection Product offers trip, airfare, medical and luggage protection as well.
Taxes and fuel surcharges included in the price of the voyage. There are no hidden fees. The cruise line attracts upscale professionals over 55 years old and families. Cruises last from 8-19 days and are offered year round. Tauck Cruising travels to popular tourist destinations in Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, Canada, Cuba, Europe, Latin America, and the United States.
Meals are included with all Tauck Cruises. Travelers may choose who they dine with and when in its open-seating atmosphere. Dining options include buffets, regional cuisines, and special theme dinners. Vegetarian meals and some offshore meals are also available. Gratuities are included in the price of the fare. Tables are intimately set for two to six people, and a selection of international wines is offered for guests to enjoy. Standard amenities found onboard of Tauck River Cruising ships include the following:
- On-Board Presentations by Local Experts
- Cultural Performances by Local Artists
- Free Choice Dining
There are an impressive number of large suites aboard the cruise line. Cabins feature French balconies, marble bathrooms, walk-in closets, and floor-to-ceiling windows. The cabins are also equipped with flat-screen televisions, safes, radios, hair dryers, toiletries, bathrobes and slippers. The public areas of the ships feature Wi-Fi access, massage rooms, fitness centers, and 24-hour hot tubs.
- Luggage restrictions
- Age limits
- Wheelchair assistance
Because of limited motor coach space, Tauck River Cruises allows each passenger to carry onboard only one normal-sized suitcase and one carry-on bag. Dimensions for carry-on bags should not exceed 17" x 12" x 10". Passengers are encouraged to pack light and only bring items absolutely necessary.
According to the company website, Tauck River Cruising tours are not suitable for infants and children under three years old. The company reserves the right to ask any disruptive passengers to leave tours. Children are to be accompanied by parents at all times and certain age restrictions apply for some journeys. Guests are asked to inquire about these restrictions at the time of booking.
Wheelchairs and some types of motorized scooters can be accommodated on certain Tauck journeys. However, these are generally not accepted on international and exotic destinations. Motor coach limitations make it hard to accommodate these items and the company cannot provide wheelchair assistance. Guests in need of these services are encouraged to inquire regarding exceptions to these requirements.
Special Dietary Needs
Special dietary needs can be accommodated as well, but cannot be guaranteed depending on selected destinations. Tauck is more than happy to communicate these needs to hotels and restaurants ahead of time. Buffet and a la carte meals may make this even more challenging. If this is a concern, consult with the company at the time of reservation.
Tauck journeys can only accommodate up to three people per room. Room accommodations consist of two beds and a roll-away. This is disappointing considering the company's family-friendly focus and due to the ship's small size. The featured trips are also quite expensive, making the journey impossible for some travelers. Their specialty cruises are broken down as follows:
- Cruising Down Under - Eastbound:19 days-$12,340 plus on-tour air
This new 19-day Australia and New Zealand cruise blends land stays in Sydney, Cairns, Melbourne and Auckland with 9 nights aboard Le Soléalcruising to New Zealand's natural gems... creating cultural connections through Tauck's signature sightseeing, exclusive cultural experiences and included shore excursions.
- Cruising the Land of the Rising Sun - Northbound:14 days-$11,290
Spend fourteen days discovering the people and places of Japan - with eight nights aboard our elegant yacht Le Soléal and five nights at premier hotels in the heart of Kyoto and Tokyo; explore Osaka, Uno Ko, Uwajima, Kagoshima, Nagasaki and more.
Entertainment options are limited aboard the ship, since most river cruises focus on the destination rather on the trip itself. This is generally no problem if you are looking to rest and relax in-between destinations. However, children can get bored and restless so plan on bringing activities to entertain them. The ship does not feature many activities for kids aboard the ship.
Airfare Not Included
Airfare is not included among the all-inclusive amenities. Frequent-flyer miles cannot be applied towards the purchase of Tauck's airfare or class upgrades. Some destinations require the reservation and purchase of on-tour flights through the company.
