The Good

The ships feature air conditioned cabins with private bathrooms, ceiling fan, and fridge. Guests received a fantastic view of the sea and islands through the cabin windows as the ship makes its route along Halong Bay. International and Vietnamese buffet meals featuring fresh fish and seafood are served to guests at the onboard fine dining restaurant. Special dietary meals and limited complimentary beverages are available upon request. Guests will enjoy sipping cocktails at The Topside while watching the sunset.

Onboard activities include Vietnamese cooking classes, morning Tai Chi sessions, and relaxing at the spa with an invigorating massage. Water lovers will enjoy swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking activities that are available through the cruise line. Snuggle up with a great book at the library or head over to the outdoor decks and grill up some BBQ. Fishing and cycling options are also available and at night guests can let loose and have some fun by participating in Karaoke. Standard amenities/activities found on all Bhaya Day cruises include:

  • Swimming
  • Kayaking
  • Tai Chi
  • Fine Dining
  • Topside Bar and Sundeck

Services/amenities/activities that are unique to each Bhaya Day cruise ship are:

  • Vietnamese-Style Spa and Massage Services
  • Offshore Excursions

Internet Wi-Fi is available to guests in all public areas and rooms free of charge. Other services include: room service, shuttle service, childcare, and laundry services. Some of these incur an extra surcharge, so be sure to ask ahead of time. Meeting and Banquet facilities and VIP Room facilities are available for larger groups and businesses. The ships also contain souvenir and gifts shops for travelers that want to purchase memorabilia.

The best times to visit the area are between October and May. Guests will want to bring plenty of layers as the weather can be a bit unpredictable. Raincoats and umbrellas are also highly recommended. Guests will also want to bring along a bathing suit and clothing that do not mind getting wet as well as a good pair of comfortable walking shoes.

The Bad

All valuables are required to be registered at the time of reception for safekeeping in a safety deposit box. The company is not responsible for any missing belongs that are not registered,. Travelers are responsible for researching and purchasing their own travel protection insurance. Bhaya Cruises does not provide these services.

The soft drinks and alcoholic beverages are expensive aboard the cruise line. The company only provides a few complimentary bottles, including water. Guests may want to consider purchasing beverage items at ports of call. The food aboard the ship is of average quality according to previous customers, and nothing to brag about.

Previous customers also stated that activities onboard could be better as well. Activities scheduled for the second day of a cruise are done on a separate ship the company contracts out to, so be prepared ahead of time for a ship change. The company is not upfront with their passengers regarding this information. Some passengers also complained concerning the quality of cleanliness in the cabins and in certain decks of the ships. However, these complaints were few and far between.

Food options are limited aboard the ship, but of decent quality. Customers would have liked to see more variety as most of the meals center around Vietnamese flavors. This is not a concern if you plan to do most of your dining away from the ship. Also, the charges per day can also be expensive especially since they do not last as long as other cruise options. Prices are broken down as follows:

  • Halong Bay Day Cruise: $34-$103/per person
  • 2 Day/One Night Cruise: $165-$499/per person
  • 3 Day/2Night Cruise: $322-$828/per person

The ships are not a good choice for passengers who seek a private setting to relax and unwind. The ship was designed for large groups with plenty of socializing. If you are seeking a more intimate voyage, you may want to consider another cruise line option that best suits your needs. There are no high-energy activities for kids as compared to other popular cruise lines, so you may want to keep this is in mind if you are planning a family vacation.

Customer reviews are mixed evenly between positive and negative experiences. There is no accurate way to judge how the company handles customer complaints. Overall, it appears that the company is a reputable cruise line with 8 years in the industry.

The Bottom Line

Bhaya Day Cruises are the perfect choice for older couples who desire to learn more about Vietnamese culture and experience it first-hand. It is also an excellent choice for large groups and businesses with its banquet and meeting facilities perfect for weddings and conferences. It may not be a good decision for families with highly active children or adults seeking a relaxing and intimate cruising experience. Bhaya year-round cruises range from 1-3 days with prices that are affordable for nearly every budget.

Customer reviews are mixed. Food choices and activity options are limited and beverages can be expensive. The weather in the area is a bit unpredictable, so if you decide to book a Bhaya cruise you will want to pack for al. kinds of weather. The company appears to be reputable, so do your research and decide if it is a good fit for you before making a reservation.
