Total Defense has been providing computer security products since 2011. The company is based in Hauppauge, New York. Total Defense’s main focus is not computer backup services; the company offers anti-virus, anti-malware, mobile security, parental controls and PC-optimization in addition to backup services. There are several features which make Total Defense an attractive choice for their users, but the company lacks transparency with their basic features, and is limited on others.

Jottacloud was founded in 2008 and has been offering their services from their headquarters in Oslo for a global customer base. A significant portion of Jottacloud’s professional identity is their distinction from other companies, particularly those based in the United States, and Norway’s differing privacy laws. As such, the company states that their customers’ data is far more secure than if they were to purchase cloud backup storage from another company.

BackupGenie is one of five brands owned and operated by JDI Backup, which is owned by The Endurance Group International. JDI Backup is headquartered in the United Kingdom and was founded in 2011. BackupGenie boasts a solid commitment to growing with technology and offering the latest technology to their customers.

The Endurance Group International and JDI Companies have had many problems with either being found to have falsified information (creating false dating profiles for their online dating companies) or being accused of falsifying information - company earnings were allegedly over-reported to shareholders, resulting in an ongoing class action lawsuit.

In order to maintain and report the most current information, the Review Team periodically audits their reviews and updates information. At the last of such reviews in July, 2016, the Review Team found this statement from Bitcasa:

“We are discontinuing our Bitcasa Drive service in order to focus our full attention on our growing platform business.

All account owners must take action to avoid losing their files. For more information, please visit our Help Center.

Thank you for being a Bitcasa Drive user. We have appreciated all of your support.”

However, there remain pages on their site about their personal backup and storage solutions. The links to subscribe to these plans result in server timeouts. As is the case in these situations, the Review Team leaves a company’s review up with the last known information published, but the Overall Score reflects that they are no longer servicing customers.
