- Backup frequency
- Storage discrepancies
BackupRunner is unlike many companies which the Review Team reviews across industries in that there is very little positive which can be said about the company. The website is rife with dead links and misleading information. Many of the issues which the Review Team discovered about BackupRunner is minor in isolation, however when considered all together, a powerful picture emerges of a company which is severely lacking in professional integrity.
PC Magazine Editor's Choice
The company also displays an image suggesting that they have been chosen as an Editor's Choice winner selected by the prestigious PC Magazine. Again, there is no record of PC Magazine ever reviewing or awarding this product as one of their Editor's Choice winners. Are designed to mislead the customer into believing that the product is better than it is.
Dead Links on Website and Out of Date Information
Rather than reviewing as website, as other reviewing sites do, the Review Team focuses on the information contained in the site itself, rather than if the color scheme doesn't work. It is notable that a large number of links on BackupRunner's site are not active and lead to 404 pages. These include information on specifics about their product, such as the information about their Free Trial, which is supposed to be a 30-Day trial, according to some of the page content on other pages. The Review Team is unable to report information on how this trial works though.
Links to the company's Facebook page are also dead links, as well as the link to request online chat customer service.
The last time that the company updated their site copyright is 2014. This indicates a level of professionalism, which in this case is absent.
Mobile and Web Options
The company states that they support Android and iOS with mobile apps, however there are no links to apps, no info on site, and apps are not found on the app stores for either platform.
Frequency of Backups and Previous Versions
BackupRunner allows members to schedule their backups as well as to use automatic backups. The Review Team had questions which were not answered, due to the lack of customer service professionals about the retention of data. The following is taken directly from BackupRunner's website, which sounds as though they delete all data every 30 days.
However, don't blur the line between data backup and data storage. Ours is a totally backup program, hence you are advised not to delete any data from your system hard-disk or external hard drives permanently with an objective to free memory. We do retain the data on our server, but it's limited to 30 days. Giving regular attention towards repair and maintenance of PC or devices can further help you to keep data loss problems at bay.
BackupRunner gives storage limits when discussing their plans and pricing, but on another page, it states that they offer "Unlimited Storage." The Review Team was unable to confirm or clarify any information about this feature as the phone number listed was not answered, the online chat link is a bad link, and emails to the company were not answered.
Features upon which the Review Team bases their rating and could not rate the company due to insufficient information include: File Sharing, Performance and Speed, and Security. There are no notable extra features available for users which bear mentioning by the Review Team.
