Orphanage Support Services Organization (OSSO) is a Utah-based charitable nonprofit focused on helping children living in orphanages reach their full potential, primarily accomplished through volunteer work.
OSSO has sent nearly 5,000 volunteers abroad to provide face-to-face service and financial support to disadvantaged and disabled children. Through charitable donations, the organization also helps cover the costs for medicine, nutrition, and education.
Since its founding in 1999, OSSO has helped support 30 orphanages in more than six countries and currently provides year-round support to seven orphanages in Ecuador.
OSSO functions primarily by facilitating volunteer trips for individuals, couples, families, and larger groups. All volunteers are required to complete an application to enter the orphanages, and a background check will be conducted for each applicant.
If you are interested in volunteering with OSSO, or you’ve already been accepted as a volunteer, the organization’s website provides all the information you will need for preparing for your trip, including packing lists, immunization requirements, etc.
OSSO has a 2021 GuideStar Seal of Transparency, indicating that the organization is trustworthy and transparent with all information. A GuideStar Seal of Transparency means that an organization has provided IRS context to information contained on its GuideStar profile. This additional context allows funders and donors to feel more comfortable working with an organization based on the fact that the organization is transparent with its information.
While researching this organization, we didn’t find any concerning information for donors, volunteers, or recipients. OSSO appears to be a reputable non-profit seeking to support children in orphanages and similar institutions abroad.
