Immersive Courses

DevMountain courses are fully immersive, meaning students learn coding on DevMountain’s campus Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.– 5 p.m. for 13 weeks. This immersive program is beneficial because students learn more in a matter of weeks then many would be able to learn by themselves in years. Many mentors live in DevMountain housing which means that students have access to in-person help around the clock.

Here is a brief synopsis of the courses that DevMountain offers:

• Web Development ($11,900, 13 weeks) — Students learn how to become a full-stack developer. Languages and concepts that are taught in the web development boot camp include Git and Github, HTML 5 and CSS 3, Javascript, React JS, Node JS, databases, and testing.
• iOS development ($10,900, 13 weeks) — Students learn various languages used in iOS development including Swift 4 and Uikit. Apart from these frameworks, students also learn about Xcode, Swift, Objective-C, UI/UX, app design, architecture, data, debugging, and submitting apps.
• UX Design ($10,900, 13 weeks) — Students obtain the skills necessary to begin a career in UX design. These skills include UX research, prototyping, information architecture, visual design, and motion design. The UX Design Course also has an after-hours course that is taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. This after hours course lasts for 16 weeks as opposed to 13 weeks in the immersive program.
• Software QA ($7,500, 6 weeks) — Students learn the skills necessary to receive a quality assurance certification. Concepts taught in the Software QA Immersive Course include Git and Github, Javascript, test writing, unit testing, test automation, load testing, API testing, and agile methodology.

Free Housing for Students

DevMountain is unlike any other code boot camp in that housing is offered at no extra cost for immersive students. The company does not want housing to be a reason that students are unable to attend courses and learn.

Houses typically include four to six students in each apartment. Private rooms are unavailable and DevMountain housing is only available for individuals enrolled in full-time courses, not family members or spouses.

Amenities in the housing include internet, kitchen supplies, washer and dryer, couches, twin-size beds, cleaning supplies, and more.

Career Resources

On-campus career guidance counselors are available to help students prepare for future jobs. On top of learning coding, individuals are equipped with knowledge of resume optimization, career and interview prep, and employer networking.

DevMountain also provides resources such as job negotiation trainings, LinkedIn training, hiring events, job search tactics, technical interview training, access to recorded classes, and discounts to additional courses.

Not All Applicants Are Admitted

DevMountain tries to keep classes to 20–30 students to provide optimal learning experiences. As a result of the small class sizes, not everyone who hopes to attend courses is able to. The application process consists of an online application, a phone consultation, and a pre-course challenge. The purpose of the pre-course challenge is to measure where potential candidates currently stand, but people with zero experience are not at a disadvantage. Students need to be at least 18 years old by the time classes start.

Limited Locations

Since the courses offered by DevMountain are immersive, this means that there is much less flexibility than online classes. Web development is offered in Lehi, Utah; Dallas, Texas; and Phoenix, Arizona. The iOS development, UX design, and Software QA courses are only available in Lehi, Utah.

Not Accredited

DevMountain is not accredited by the federal government, which means that students cannot receive Federal Title IV student loans. As a result of the lack of federal accreditation, DevMountain partners with several third-party lenders to offer tuition financing options to students.

No Job Placement Guarantee

Despite the awesome career resources available to grads, DevMountain does not offer a job placement guarantee. If it is absolutely crucial that you land a job immediately upon completion of your training, it would be better for you to go with an apprenticeship program or a boot camp that guarantees you’ll find a job. For example, a different coding school charges grads zero tuition if they don’t find a high-paying job after 60 months of deferred payments.
