There are a lot of factors that affect the price of service. Location, type of new business and requested ‘extras’ all factor into the final dollar amount. For those requesting a “DBA”, or sole proprietorship, the minimum price is $99 plus state fees. Trademark purchases start at $149, plus state fees.
Fees don’t seem to be hidden; Legal Zoom is upfront about the extra amounts pinned on to each order. Additional fees seem to vary from product to product.
Customer support is available via telephone and email. Agents are available to take phone calls Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pacific time, and Saturdays 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.; closed on Sundays. Emails are usually answered within one business day.
Legal Zoom has been accredited with the Better Business Bureau since 2011, and has a rating of ‘A+’. However, they have racked up a fair amount of complaints; 202 complaints were closed in the last three years, with 77 of those closed within the past 12 months. Of those, 112 were aimed specifically at problems with products and service.
There are two reviews on Legal Zoom’s website listed on the Better Business Bureau, and both are negative. One complaint was slanted toward additional fees, and the other was ultimately trouble with customer service.
