No, it's not an April Fool's joke.
Out of toilet paper? Out of laundry detergent? Out of macaroni and cheese? Don't worry - just press the Cottonelle, Tide, and Kraft specialized Dash buttons to order more. They can be placed anywhere - like in the bathroom, laundry room, and kitchen cabinet - so you're reminded immediately to reload your stash.
Once the button is pushed, it sends an alert to the phone, which gives consumers the option of canceling the order if needed. The button will only send an order alert the first time it is pushed. (MarketWatch)
The free Dash buttons will be available for Amazon Prime members to start, and there is no word on whether or not it will be rolling out to all Amazon customers. Prime subscribers can request an invitation to get buttons on Amazon's website. There are 18 brands currently affiliated with Dash, including those in the cleaning products, personal care, and food markets.
And don't worry about your toddler. Only one order at a time can be placed, and the instant alert system makes it easy for you to see who is playing around with Dash.
Amazon is currently accepting pre-orders for Amazon Echo, their newest internet-connected gadget, a conversational bluetooth speaker that can place orders for you and place items in your Amazon cart.
