Turns out, Amazon is an appropriately named company. Just like its namesake, the Amazon river, the company is also mysterious, dangerous, and full of treasures for those who brave its jungles. Fear not, intrepid consumers! As your guide, I shall reveal some of the retail giant's secrets! Read on, Macduff.

  1. Amazon uses more than 15,000 robots globally. They roam the vast merchandise warehouses, fetching items for the people who pack up the boxes for shipping. They can also suggest box sizes and estimate the amount of packing tape needed to seal the box.
  2. Amazon has over 100 fulfillment centers worldwide, 67 of which are in North America.
  3. Amazon's largest fulfillment center, in Phoenix, AZ, is the size of 28 football fields. Conveyor belts that carry products from different floors can move items as quickly as 20MPH. Workers need bikes to get around.
  4. Up to 4 members of the same household can share one Amazon Prime membership.
  5. Students can get 6 months of Amazon Prime for free.
  6. Amazon Prime members are automatically subscribed to Amazon Mom which gives new parents a diaper subscription discount and a 15% discount on baby registry items.
  7. Prime members get unlimited photo storage on Amazon's Cloud Drive. You can move your photos from your computer, phone, or other cloud drives that are filling up, and save them all for free on Amazon's servers.
  8. Prime members get access to ad-free streaming music with unlimited skips. You can create your own music stations or pick from ready-made playlists. Any music you buy from Amazon doesn't count against your Cloud Drive storage. You can import up to 250 songs you purchased elsewhere (e.g., iTunes or ripped from CDs) for free.
  9. If you live in Seattle, California, or New York, you can order groceries from Amazon Fresh and have them delivered right to your door.
  10. If you live in certain parts of New York City, you can get Amazon Prime Now to deliver your orders in 1-2 hours.
