College Savings Plan

Despite its many services including personal checking and insurance protection, Citibank does not offer a college savings plan. Parents and their children who want to plan for the financial expenses that come with a higher education will have to look into other banks to meet their needs.

Banking Fees

They also have many banking fees for checking accounts which include:

  • Monthly Maintenance fee: again depends on the account but the fees range from $10-$30 a month unless consumer meets certain requirements.
  • Overdraft fee $34
  • Non-Citibank ATM fee $2.50 per withdrawal
  • Other service fees

The Bottom Line

Citi Bank has proven themselves to be a secure bank to open an account for personal, small business, or commercial company.  Their many services provide an excellent source for financial needs. The New York-based company high employee satisfaction ratings is always a good sign and Citibank has online and mobile banking options as well.

Although Citibank has been in business for more than 200 years, the business has its share of negatives. It also lacks a college savings plan.

Our recommendation: If you have a child with college aspirations and want to be able save up in time for a higher education, Citibank is not your best option. However, if you are looking for an all-around banking service complete with personal checking and savings accounts, consider Citibank.
