The Bad

  • No Gap Insurance
  • Must Provide Personal Information to See Quote
  • Discounts Vary by State

No Gap Insurance

If you’re leasing a car or took a loan on your new car, you’ll need to get gap insurance coverage elsewhere. Gap insurance covers the remainder of your loan or lease if your car is totaled before you finished making payments. Gap insurance is valuable because you don’t have to worry about paying a loan for a car you can’t use anymore and a new car.

While it would be nice for Farmers to offer this coverage, you’re likely to get the coverage through your dealer.

Must Provide Personal Information to See Quote

To view a quote, you’ll need to provide personal information like your car’s VIN, your driver’s license, and your address. While this is much more personal information than required in other industries, it’s necessary information for getting a quote and is standard practice in the industry.

Discounts Vary by State

Farmers’ discounts vary by state. While it would be nice to have more consistency, you can learn more about discounts available to you when you work with Farmers directly.

The Bottom Line

Farmers is a great choice when it comes to choosing a car insurance company. It offers good coverage options and nice discounts. It shows its dedication to its clients by offering many convenient ways to access and manage its products and services online and through a mobile app. If you prefer, you can also work with an insurance agent directly.

Farmers Free Review® service is also beneficial because it can tell you whether or not your current policies truly meet your needs. This review by an insurance expert is helpful information and insight to have as you decide what kind and how much insurance to buy.

We recommend working directly with Farmers to learn more about discount and coverage availability in your area.

Overall a great company with affordable and great agents. However, they got a little tricky when we were trying to get a check for our claim. Our car had been hit by a deer and with the rates and deductibles and whatnot, we only had to pay $100 and the rest was covered by them, whether we do the fix ourselves (collapsed headlight) or if we have an autoshop affiliated with them do it, we just had to get a quote from their guys first. We went in, got a quote for $1800, said great, bought a headlight for $100, fixed it, and went on a trip. Later on, we were told that they also got a quote and it was for almost $1000 less! So that was a huge hassle to figure that out, even though we went through their guys for the quote! Like I said, good experiences overall, but this time was kind of ridiculous.

I was with Farmers Auto Insurance for 10 years. I was in a few accidents in that time and they were really easy to work with as far as claims and coverage and I really liked my agent. However, my rate was always very high, even with an excellent credit score, and a good driving history (none of the accidents were my fault). Unfortunately they couldn't get my monthly payment down much and I had to switch to State Farm where I am paying much less for similar coverage.

I had Farmers Ins for 15 years. I got it when I turned 16. I eventually had my home owners and several vehicles insured through them. They did take care of me on an ATV claim that I had, which was actually insured through a separate company that Farmers went through. I did some price shopping and found I was getting charge way to much on my vehicle and homeowners, so I switched.

They have good discount for multiple policies. Your rates start out good but they go up fast even with no accidents. They are not as competitive as other companies. Customer service was ok.

We had Farmer's Insurance prior to switching to our current carrier. We weren't impressed with our agent or the overall service. Felt forgotten most of the time and on a couple of occasions when we needed to reach him or get info. it took awhile.

When I talked to the people at Farmers for a quote, they were friendly and seemed to know what they were doing but their pricing was higher than I found from others for comparable coverage. I do, however, enjoy their commercials!

I felt the policy I had was good but I am giving them 3 stars for the price. I always felt like I was overpaying for the same coverage I could have gotten elsewhere. I like the company but it all comes down to what they provide for the cost.

We had Farmers for auto insurance for a few years and I felt like they were overpriced. They did have good agents and customer service but we were able to find the same coverage for much cheaper with another insurer. My 3 stars is due to the price.

We had Farmers Insurance for many years. The customer service was poor and I didn't feel valued or cared for by my agent. We switched after finding better prices and a more responsive agent.

This is my current company. They raised rates like the others after a couple of years. Somehow after talking with my agent, he was able to get them back down. I give them an extra star for that.

I was with Farmers for a couple years but they kept raising their rates without any cause to do so. Good insurance but found cheaper for the coverage elsewhere.

Every year they seem to go up in price I don't know why because every since I've been with them I have no claims
