The Good

  • Excellent customer service
  • Descriptive listings
  • No fees for buyers
Public Surplus has excellent customer service. They have a quick responding chat box on their main page if you have any immediate questions. Each listing is very descriptive of each product and will have all the information you need to know on full display. The only fees they have for sellers is a small transaction fee. There are no fees for buyers.

The Bad

  • Lacking information
  • Cannot sell personal items
  • No shipping
There is very little information on their website. To gather information on becoming a seller, you need to contact one of their sales agents and let them know which government agency you are officially a part of. You cannot personally sell your own items on their site unless you are affiliated with a government agency. Most, if not all, of their items need to be directly picked up. They do not ship items to their buyers. They do not have any trending, daily or special deals on their site.

The Bottom Line

Public Surplus is a good site for buyers who are looking to get a good deal on larger items previously owned by the government. They have a great reputation and good relationship with their customers. Unfortunately, it is only a good site for sellers if you are affiliated with a government agency or entity. If you are not, we would suggest selling your personal items on one of our top recommended auction sites.

I have got two cars from the site and a little trailer. I had no problem at all. If any thing they should Raise the deposit to $200. I would say it’s the best place to get a used car

This company is all over the internet which I should of checked before using. They have a consistent habbit of accepting your credit card during the deposit and bidding process. When it comes time for check out your card doesnt work. You are then put through several dead ends with a chat line and email correspondence. Although they do have a phone number you can not leave a message. You are guided once again to dead end after dead. Meanwhile your 5 day period to pay for your item ( in my case a truck ) is lapsing. You are then liable for additional fees for defaulting and loose your deposit. In my case my card ended up frozen due to the wild goose chase and I was able to file a complaint and remove the deposit hold on my card and had to have a new credit card issued. So you are basically forced into a wire transfer (Yeah Right ) or pay penalties and never get your bid item. Also getting your account closed with them is another suspicious tactic. You have to default first before you can have yourself removed and they want additional personal information to close your account. Do yourself a favor and avoid this nightmare. Take your buisness else where. Just goggle this companies reviews on the internet. You will thank yourself in the long run.
