Serenity Malibu is a holistic addiction treatment center that is both accredited by CARF, an international and independent nonprofit organization for health and human service providers, and licensed by the California State Department of Alcohol and Drug Program. Serenity’s treatment program follows a unique treatment program based on the 13 addiction treatment principles outline by the National Institute of Drug Abuse. Aftercare programs are an important step to ensuring patient success after leaving a rehabilitation center. While some centers offer programs or follow-up steps for past patients, some go as far as to connect past alumni to form support groups. Serenity Malibu has both of these programs available including the following features:
- Graduation presentation
- Returns to campus post treatment for alumni events quarterly
- Weekly alumni conference phone calls
- Opportunities to intern and volunteer at the main campus or from home
Serenity offers the SMART Recovery in addition to its holistic 13-step program. SMART Recovery encourages self-empowerment and is a great alternative for those who are discouraged by faith-based teaching found in most 12-step programs. The program has a 4-point approach:
- Building and Maintaining Motivation
- Coping with Urges
- Managing Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviors
- Living a Balanced Life
Serenity’s small number of patient intake is due to its commitment to individual treatment. Upon arrival, client receive an intake exam and medical assessment by a treatment team. The team then works with the client to create a treatment program customized to the patient’s need. The team then follows up with the client weekly and makes any modifications to the plan according to the clients progress.
Serenity takes into consideration family dynamics in addiction treatment. The center offers family assessments and diagnoses as well. Serenity even offers an intensive three day family treatment in their facility. This requires more than 25 hours of treatment after a mental assessment of each family member.
