Alumni Program

Rehabilitation centers often provide aftercare programs to aid clients into their transition back into their normal lives and to provide accountability. Some centers also create a network of alumni that can connect with each other and offer support after their time at a rehabilitation facility has passed. Promises has both of these programs available. Promises' Aftercare plan, called Extended Care Treatment, allows for clients to schedule a variety of therapy options around their lives after treatment at a facility is completed. Promises hosts meetings and events and implements a follow-up system as part of their alumni program as well.

Program Options

Promises has treatment options that are both 12-step and SMART-based. While 12-step programs are often faith-based, SMART Recovery is a developing program that relies on self-empowerment as opposed to reliance on a higher power. Promises also tailors special programs to young adults, licensed professionals, and women as well as trauma and PTSD sufferers. Promises executes both inpatient and outpatient programs. The outpatient program is designed for adults ages 26 and older who have busy everyday life commitments. Clients meet three times a week in an outpatient rehab center with licensed addiction specialists, therapists, and psychiatric services.

Medically Monitored Detox

Promises offers detox services that involve close supervision by a team of detox specialists who have backgrounds in nursing or who are experienced medical detox supervisors. Medical detox helps clients through the pain and discomfort of the initial 3-7-day detox step to the program so that they can move on and be successful with the rest of the program. Detox steps include comprehensive assessments, medication, massage therapy, acupuncture, and neurofeedback.

Host of Therapy Types

Promises' staff-to-client ratio of 1:2 means that clients are able to have a lot of individualized counseling. Promises acknowledges and accommodates co-occurring disorders such as depression, trauma (PTSD), grief or loss issues, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and sleep disorders during treatment. Other types of therapy offered include holistic rehab, Acceptance and Commitment Psychotherapy, acupuncture, art, Balancing Life Project, Cognitive-Behavioral, Dialectical Behavior, Equine, family, somatic and group therapy.

Initial Assessment

Promises conducts a 96-hour personal assessment that includes the following (taken from website):

• A thorough medical history and physical examination along with screening laboratory tests, performed by an attending physician.
• Toxicology screens
• A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation by a board-certified psychiatrist
• Psychological interview and testing
• A psychological evaluation performed by a clinician, which typically includes:
  • Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - II (MMPI-II)
  • Millon Clinical Multiaxial Personality Inventory - III (MCMI-III)
  • Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE)
  • Projective testing when indicated

Following the above tests and assessments, the client will meet with the Promises Evaluation team to review the results and recommendations based on his or her substance abuse evaluation.
