Delta Airlines is one of the largest American airlines and is headquartered at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. It has one of the largest network hubs in the world and flies to over 325 destinations in 64 different countries. What began as Huff Daland Dusters, a crop dusting service, later became Delta Air Services with passenger flights starting in June 1929.
2013 saw Delta become the world's largest airline in terms of scheduled passengers, and the second largest in terms of revenue passenger-kilometers.
The company has worked extensively to make sure that customers have perks on most (if not all) planes in its fleet.
Passengers in the wide-bodied Boeing 766 are guaranteed to have wireless Internet available. Other models of planes may have Wi-Fi, but this feature has to be added to some planes (especially the fleet of Airbus and smaller narrow-bodied models).
Delta Sky Magazine, which is published by MSP Communications offers customers a wide variety of items to be perused in-flight.
Keep reading for pros and cons, plus Delta reviews from real customers.
There is a lot to like about Delta's SkyMiles rewards program. It is one of the only airlines in the industry to not let its customers' frequent flier miles expire. This perk for returning customers provides the potential for significant value over time.
Additional perks that come with being a SkyMiles member include flight upgrades, vacation packages, and other amenities.
There are no blackout dates for Delta's SkyMiles program.
Transparency is an important component of Delta's packages. Their travel insurance (offered through Allianz) is straightforward, easy-to-understand, and is perfect for nearly every passenger.
Another positive aspect of flying with Delta is that you are able to pay for a flight with sources of credit other than a credit card. Another payment option that could be used, for example, is Bill Me Later.
Delta has a wide array of destinations available for its clients. Their network of partners makes it easy for customers to get anywhere in the United States.
In some states, it was also possible to get to smaller cities through some of their partners. For example, we found that Moab, UT (a popular tourist spot) has scheduled service with SkyWest and Delta.
Another thing that separates Delta from their competition is their fleet of planes. Several Airbus and Boeing models are used in its wide-bodied fleet, and come with Wi-Fi, LCD displays (as of 2012), and AC power for laptops (on some planes).
Many narrow-bodied planes, mainly used for smaller connecting flights, also have Wi-Fi and other entertainment options available for customers.
The carrier has an extensive meal service for its flights, and any flight over six hours has a complimentary meal.
There is a wide variety of beverages available on flights. Alcoholic beverages include wine, beer, and some other liquor varieties that vary in price based upon the flight.
Also, all non-alcoholic beverages (including soda and coffee) are free.
A customer service experience with Delta is most likely to be positive. The website is filled with information that potential fliers may ask. It is simple to contact customer support via Domestic Flight Booking service number (800-221-1212), to ask specific questions about prices for purchasing a ticket. This is also a great place, along with their website, to get information about travel insurance.
As per Flightstats.com, Delta flights arrive on-time roughly 87% of the time. Compared to other top airlines, this is very competitive.
Let's face it; airlines can have a lot of problems when it comes to baggage. The largest complaints with Delta seems to stem from checked baggage fees. Some customers complained about the second checked baggage fee of $35. When customers take a carry-on that should be checked, some became offended at the complimentary free baggage check after check-in.
Going overseas, some customers had issues with the economy upgrade perks to their ticket. When the economy comfort perks had been "overbooked," customers were issued a refund, but often complained at not getting the experience that they had originally paid for.
Overall, these complaints were to be expected when flying in general, and most customers were pleased with their Delta experience.
Good flight and arrive early or on time. Great curbside service and easy check in service
I fly often for work and rarely am I dissapointed. The staff is mostly gracious and willing to help. The seat room is better than any other airline and most of the year I leave and arrive on time.
Like the plug feature and it's a little more comfy than spirit
I always use Amex miles to fly and Delta has always won with the overall best pkg for me.
on a 11 hour plane ride, they ran out of water in the bathrooms. No contingency in place and customer service did not respond to any reports that were taken on the flight or when i landed
Flew KC to Amsterdam and everything was great. Crew friendly and helpful, plane clean, food good choices
always professional always on the money with service
I think it is awful you cant get a refund on you airline ticket when having bad accident and you only have 1 option of using ticket within 1 year. I had multiple surgeries. It's like throwing money out the window. bad accident. All airlines give you one year to use it. I had multiple surgiers
I flew from Seatac to Phx,AZ and back 2 days later. Both flights were oversold and customers were asked to take later flights. We were also told that there was inadequate space on the plane for each passenger to place one bag in in the overhead bins. This caused me a lot of stress as I could not repack my medical supplies in my smaller bag and let them gate check my carryon. I was lucky enough to find a bin that wasn't full. The flight attendants and pilots appeared to be doing there jobs well and were as helpful as possible. On my first flight , it was indicated that the fruit & cheese platter was available but when I requested it in flight I was told that they had not been stocked and the only meals available on the plane were ones I could not eat due to allergies.
Extremely concerned about flight safety. Aircraft was new A321.
flight attendants are sensitive with the customer.
Delta's behavior demonstrates they consider their obligation is to take their passengers from their departure point to their destination how and when it suits them, and nothing more.
Was greeted well ,offered baggage perk and the flight attendants are always accoomodatin
On a non-code share flight, seats are cramped, no leg room.
Too inflexible with flight changes. The charge to change flights many times exceeds the cost of the flight.

It was good. Very friendly. No problems.i had a short flight so it went smoothly
Decent airline to fly with. Comparable to other major airlines. Nothing stood out, neither positive or negative. I rarely fly so this survey really doesn't pertain to me.
Very nice no issues the Delta team is very helpful and responsive
Exceptional in every aspect. Online booking was easy, boarding pass was easily navigated. Attendants were courteous and helpful and flights were smooth.
As good as possible with the rough weather conditions at the flight time.
luggage could be faster waited for 35 monutes for bag
Had wheelchair for me; originally no one was at counter for checkin at LAX; X
very good considering I was handicapped, I was helped with my luggage and put in my seat, getting off was just as easy. help with a wheel chair when i arrived
Excellent I love travelling with this company and the price I paid was very reasonable. Everyone in the crew was great and helpful. At the end of the journey I had a chat with the pilot and the copilot and they allowed me to take their picture for my son.
Out of Salt Lake City I can get a direct flight most places. Unlike most others out is salt lake for the same price.
Last time we were delayed, it was snowing hard with a mix of sleet n rain. Plane was deiced and sat another 40 minutes. As a private pilot, I believe it should of been deiced again before we took off. You could feel the drag and see huge chunks of snow n slush coming off the wings. I expected to be on the ground in a heap of twisted aluminum. Worst ride of my life.
very good, on time, clean planes, convenient flights, friendly personnel
Reliable service, on time departure & arrivals. Friendly attendants
I LOVE how you can watch movies on some of the flights. The plane was super nice and customer service was great
I absolutely love Delta Airlines because they have the best customer service. They are amazing at making your flight experience the best for everyone on board.
I absolutely love delta. They know exactly how to take care of their guests and are always clean
Delta has a great reward program with American Express. Love the options you have with this company
Love flying delta it’s a great way to travel and the staff was helpful with all our needs
I enjoy using Delta Airlines because of its great customer service and Delta Priority membership.
Overall, a merely decent experience. The customer service is lackluster, and the plane was filthy and the bathrooms were even worst.
I have always had great success with the Delta I have flown multiple times round trip to Hawaii. Do you have enough leg room and we’re very nice on the plane.
Their vacation package has always been amazing for us, we feel so comfortable flying and knowing everything will work out.
I highly recommend Delta Airlines! I have never had to stress on trips when I book with Delta. In the past year, I have had multiple flights. Every flight with Delta is stress free- including no delays, great customer service, and yummy snacks. I will be booking with Delta again soon.
I have been flying with delta for the past 6 years for work and have been pleased with their customer service.
I love delta. They truly take care of my needs and I feel worry free when I travel with them. In the case of delay, I feel that I am compensated for it fairly.
Comfy seating. Their rewards program is awesome. And I always feel welcomed, safe, and secure.
The flight attendants are always friendly and greet everyone to enter the plain. And the free snacks are delish. Always giving out yummy pretzels and biscoff cookies. Plus there’s usually a movie screen on my seat. Never complain when flying Delta !
I always get the same experience when flying Delta, and that is a good thing. They consistently deliver state of the art planes, courteous flight attendants, and a quality flight. Whenever I get a chance I tried to fly Delta.

I love flying delta. They treat me good and they give me snacks and that makes me happy. I usually fly standby and even that is a good time.
Always had a positive experience with them. Clean interior of the plane, good customer service, and even helped me board a plane late!
Super good customer service and trustworthy staff. I would recommend this airline
We feel at home when we fly Delta. Comfortable and efficient!
They are friendly and helpful . Planes are clean. The usually are on time.
Higher costs for less room and smaller seats. Like the airline and service, but not the price for what is delivered.
bad, expensive and old plane, need to have new plane for international flight, and safety concerns
