Delta Airlines is one of the largest American airlines and is headquartered at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. It has one of the largest network hubs in the world and flies to over 325 destinations in 64 different countries. What began as Huff Daland Dusters, a crop dusting service, later became Delta Air Services with passenger flights starting in June 1929.
2013 saw Delta become the world's largest airline in terms of scheduled passengers, and the second largest in terms of revenue passenger-kilometers.
The company has worked extensively to make sure that customers have perks on most (if not all) planes in its fleet.
Passengers in the wide-bodied Boeing 766 are guaranteed to have wireless Internet available. Other models of planes may have Wi-Fi, but this feature has to be added to some planes (especially the fleet of Airbus and smaller narrow-bodied models).
Delta Sky Magazine, which is published by MSP Communications offers customers a wide variety of items to be perused in-flight.
Keep reading for pros and cons, plus Delta reviews from real customers.
There is a lot to like about Delta's SkyMiles rewards program. It is one of the only airlines in the industry to not let its customers' frequent flier miles expire. This perk for returning customers provides the potential for significant value over time.
Additional perks that come with being a SkyMiles member include flight upgrades, vacation packages, and other amenities.
There are no blackout dates for Delta's SkyMiles program.
Transparency is an important component of Delta's packages. Their travel insurance (offered through Allianz) is straightforward, easy-to-understand, and is perfect for nearly every passenger.
Another positive aspect of flying with Delta is that you are able to pay for a flight with sources of credit other than a credit card. Another payment option that could be used, for example, is Bill Me Later.
Delta has a wide array of destinations available for its clients. Their network of partners makes it easy for customers to get anywhere in the United States.
In some states, it was also possible to get to smaller cities through some of their partners. For example, we found that Moab, UT (a popular tourist spot) has scheduled service with SkyWest and Delta.
Another thing that separates Delta from their competition is their fleet of planes. Several Airbus and Boeing models are used in its wide-bodied fleet, and come with Wi-Fi, LCD displays (as of 2012), and AC power for laptops (on some planes).
Many narrow-bodied planes, mainly used for smaller connecting flights, also have Wi-Fi and other entertainment options available for customers.
The carrier has an extensive meal service for its flights, and any flight over six hours has a complimentary meal.
There is a wide variety of beverages available on flights. Alcoholic beverages include wine, beer, and some other liquor varieties that vary in price based upon the flight.
Also, all non-alcoholic beverages (including soda and coffee) are free.
A customer service experience with Delta is most likely to be positive. The website is filled with information that potential fliers may ask. It is simple to contact customer support via Domestic Flight Booking service number (800-221-1212), to ask specific questions about prices for purchasing a ticket. This is also a great place, along with their website, to get information about travel insurance.
As per Flightstats.com, Delta flights arrive on-time roughly 87% of the time. Compared to other top airlines, this is very competitive.
Let's face it; airlines can have a lot of problems when it comes to baggage. The largest complaints with Delta seems to stem from checked baggage fees. Some customers complained about the second checked baggage fee of $35. When customers take a carry-on that should be checked, some became offended at the complimentary free baggage check after check-in.
Going overseas, some customers had issues with the economy upgrade perks to their ticket. When the economy comfort perks had been "overbooked," customers were issued a refund, but often complained at not getting the experience that they had originally paid for.
Overall, these complaints were to be expected when flying in general, and most customers were pleased with their Delta experience.
With Delta Airlines, I have had some trouble, the day of my scheduled departure, they cancelled our flight and we had to completly switch airlines, the customer service was helpful but the situation was inconvienent.
I love flying on delta and love that we can use our sky miles credit card to earn miles.
I love flying Delta. Always great service and the best international product out of the major US airlines.
Can find decent prices sometimes, good service and reliable. Everything as expected.
I love to fly with Delta. They have great customer service when making flight arrangements, their check-in is easy and the boarding is hassle free. They accommodate me and my three children easily and carefree. This is my first choice for flying!
Very great experience! They really know how to make their passengers feel welcomed, comfortable, and safe!
Absolute favorite airline overall. Have been given the most service, flight time and destination options, most comprehensive experience by far! And have been given the most competitive prices for my personal and business travel needs. Highly recommended!
Delta provides an amazing flight experience. I really appreciate the quality of customer service that the flight attendants always provide. Their snacks/menu is better than any other airline I've flown on. Every Delta flight I've had has been one of comfort and relaxation.
Traveling is a headache and Delta has made efforts to make it a more enjoyable experience.
Delta is the gold standard of airlines. Their flights are on time, their service is good, and they have competitive fares.
I love that delta's flights are always on time!

I fly routinely between LAX and SLC, and Delta flights are always the cleanest. They've always been very accommodating of me traveling with my young son as well. I avoid flying airlines other than Delta whenever possible because Delta has always been the easiest to work with!
Delta Airlines is a great way to fly. The people are nice and if something goes wrong they work their hardest to fix it.
Customer service is very important to Delta airlines. Only bad part is that they charge for luggages international. Flights are usually on timely manner. Very polite inflight crew.
Love that Delta has a base in our home city. Lots of choices of flights all over the world for us to go to.
Love delta. I am loyal to them because they rarely have delays or cancelled flights. Their staff is very good from call center to flight attendants.
Delta is amazing! I deal with them on a daily basis for customers. Their website is easily navigated, when you do have to call them every agent is friendly and k knowledgable.
It's not a bad airline. Is it the best? No. Is it the worst? No. I like the movie selection and the seats aren't bad. The prices are generally on the lower end of the spectrum, so I usually fly with Delta.
Delta is the best airline! Their flights run smoothly and they have yummy snacks on the plane.
I flew to Japan with Delta and it was such a great experience. High quality in everything offered and landed on time.
I got to my destination safely and I took a nice nap. The snacks I got were good too.
Love Delta great ride, need more nuts , people are great, tickets are affordable
Fly Delta all the time and enjoy their hospitality will use them againWe find the app very easy to use
Always been happy with Delta their customer service has always been good I feel like my flights have always departed or arrived on time
Love the comfort class seats. Plenty of leg room as well as side to side. Will always up grade.
I have flown with Delta Airlines several times and each flight has been a pleasant experience. A few months back, I had a several hour flight delay through Delta in which they brought out snacks and were offering help to those who needed an immediate change in flight plans. From my experience, Delta employees are very sensitive to their travelers and proactive in offering help.
I will only fly with Delta. They have the best costumer service and are so kind. I have had the best experiences with them.
Delta is our go-to airline choice. We have always had the best success with them. They have the best customer service and still have seat back tv’s!
Delta, I really want to like Delta! I love the in-flight entertainment, I've had reasonably good service, and I think they give more in terms of drinks and snacks also. I've had awesome service from some people there, but it lacks a bit. I usually end up choosing Delta for certain flights because they sometimes have better fares and the right times when I need them, but I'll often check with Southwest first. I do realize that I get pretty excited to see Delta on my plane ticket when I'm traveling because I start to think about what movie I'll want to watch. I wonder if there's something they can do to help improve employee morale and publicly enough to where customers can more easily connect a shift towards more consistent engaged and genuine customer service.
Delta always has flights available to multiple locations. I had a problem with a connecting flight, but they were very accommodating and help fix the problem.
For me delta has always been my go to when I can, the prices are good and there is always enough room for me where the seats are compared to other airlines
Great Service and on time. Pilots welcomed us as well as the flight attendants. Clean restrooms.
I like delta because they always put the customer first. Plus, they have free movies which rocks.
Delta is a phenomenal airline. My flights always depart and arrive on time, their communication with their customers is superb, and their flight staff is so attentive and friendly.
Delta is a reliable airline that can be trusted. I have flown Delta numerous times and the flight is rarely delayed. If a flight delay occurs, they take care of their passengers. Flights tend to be more expensive than other airline carriers, but the customer service makes the extra money worth it.
Delta is a great company because of the ease of boarding, flying, and the staff.
I liked delta airlines because there was good food and the TVs were not glitchy and I loved it
Flying Delta makes me feel like a king. A blue collar price but white collar luxury.
Each time I fly with Delta, they show their professionalism and make us a comfortable as possible
Always on time, flight attendants are friendly, although you don't really get to visit with them.
Seats are too close and very uncomfortable. They are always polite
flying first class makes it much more enjoyable; it changes the experience and makes a world of difference from economy class
Delta is all about the customer experience. The leg room is good in coach class and they treat their frequent flyers as they should
Like the plug feature and it's a little more comfy than spirit
Delta's behavior demonstrates they consider their obligation is to take their passengers from their departure point to their destination how and when it suits them, and nothing more.
On a non-code share flight, seats are cramped, no leg room.
Had wheelchair for me; originally no one was at counter for checkin at LAX; X
Too inflexible with flight changes. The charge to change flights many times exceeds the cost of the flight.
As good as possible with the rough weather conditions at the flight time.
very good considering I was handicapped, I was helped with my luggage and put in my seat, getting off was just as easy. help with a wheel chair when i arrived
