Delta Airlines is one of the largest American airlines and is headquartered at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. It has one of the largest network hubs in the world and flies to over 325 destinations in 64 different countries. What began as Huff Daland Dusters, a crop dusting service, later became Delta Air Services with passenger flights starting in June 1929.
2013 saw Delta become the world's largest airline in terms of scheduled passengers, and the second largest in terms of revenue passenger-kilometers.
The company has worked extensively to make sure that customers have perks on most (if not all) planes in its fleet.
Passengers in the wide-bodied Boeing 766 are guaranteed to have wireless Internet available. Other models of planes may have Wi-Fi, but this feature has to be added to some planes (especially the fleet of Airbus and smaller narrow-bodied models).
Delta Sky Magazine, which is published by MSP Communications offers customers a wide variety of items to be perused in-flight.
Keep reading for pros and cons, plus Delta reviews from real customers.
There is a lot to like about Delta's SkyMiles rewards program. It is one of the only airlines in the industry to not let its customers' frequent flier miles expire. This perk for returning customers provides the potential for significant value over time.
Additional perks that come with being a SkyMiles member include flight upgrades, vacation packages, and other amenities.
There are no blackout dates for Delta's SkyMiles program.
Transparency is an important component of Delta's packages. Their travel insurance (offered through Allianz) is straightforward, easy-to-understand, and is perfect for nearly every passenger.
Another positive aspect of flying with Delta is that you are able to pay for a flight with sources of credit other than a credit card. Another payment option that could be used, for example, is Bill Me Later.
Delta has a wide array of destinations available for its clients. Their network of partners makes it easy for customers to get anywhere in the United States.
In some states, it was also possible to get to smaller cities through some of their partners. For example, we found that Moab, UT (a popular tourist spot) has scheduled service with SkyWest and Delta.
Another thing that separates Delta from their competition is their fleet of planes. Several Airbus and Boeing models are used in its wide-bodied fleet, and come with Wi-Fi, LCD displays (as of 2012), and AC power for laptops (on some planes).
Many narrow-bodied planes, mainly used for smaller connecting flights, also have Wi-Fi and other entertainment options available for customers.
The carrier has an extensive meal service for its flights, and any flight over six hours has a complimentary meal.
There is a wide variety of beverages available on flights. Alcoholic beverages include wine, beer, and some other liquor varieties that vary in price based upon the flight.
Also, all non-alcoholic beverages (including soda and coffee) are free.
A customer service experience with Delta is most likely to be positive. The website is filled with information that potential fliers may ask. It is simple to contact customer support via Domestic Flight Booking service number (800-221-1212), to ask specific questions about prices for purchasing a ticket. This is also a great place, along with their website, to get information about travel insurance.
As per Flightstats.com, Delta flights arrive on-time roughly 87% of the time. Compared to other top airlines, this is very competitive.
Let's face it; airlines can have a lot of problems when it comes to baggage. The largest complaints with Delta seems to stem from checked baggage fees. Some customers complained about the second checked baggage fee of $35. When customers take a carry-on that should be checked, some became offended at the complimentary free baggage check after check-in.
Going overseas, some customers had issues with the economy upgrade perks to their ticket. When the economy comfort perks had been "overbooked," customers were issued a refund, but often complained at not getting the experience that they had originally paid for.
Overall, these complaints were to be expected when flying in general, and most customers were pleased with their Delta experience.

So, this review is from the perspective of what I am finding online, and not necessarily from a recent flight. The prices for Delta just seem a bit higher compared to other companies. I'm planning a trip to Peru in November, and when looking at multiple companies and online flight book agencies, Delta is always more expensive. Is this because of the destination? Or in general is the quality of flight just better (I'm mainly only use United). I thought this would be a good takeaway for some readers who are interesting in also flying to Peru this year to maybe look for alternatives.
Delta is such an amazing airline, they are so considerate. The plane is so clean and the flight attendants are so helpful. The flight is always on time and there are never any problems.
Delta Airlines is the best airlines out there. The customer service is excellent, the planes are always clean and update to date. The pricing is perfect for what you get when flying with delta.
Airplanes are always nice and clean and the crew is always greeting customers with a smile
Love flying through Delta. Such a great airline company. The planes were always clean and new. Flight attendants were so nice and helpful. The planes were reliable and on time. Never had any maintenance errors. I love you Delta!
Great airline to fly with! Always so helpful with everything! Planes are super nice and kept well clean. Good pricing for tickets and some baggage included. Flights are always on time and reliable!
I've had great flights and some very questionable flights. Overall, they're one of the better airlines I travel on.
The flights are always good and they treat you great most of the time. There usually fair on prices and fixing flaws they have made. There attendants are really nice.
Favorite airline by far. Always clean and well kept. Can be expensive but worth every penny. Flights are always on time and the flight attendants are great and so nice to help.
The flight that we took was fine. The food left something to be desired. It has become expensive to even buy a snack on the plane. It was much better several years ago when we were served a lovely meal and given snacks.
I have flown with Delta for years. The attendants are always helpful and quick to respond. They constantly try to improve their customer care and the overall experience. I’m very impressed with them and continue to be.
I love fling Delta. There app is useful and I love that they have gluten free snacks for you to choose.
Delta cost a little bit more, but their service is a lot better than the cheaper airlines. They don’t charge me for little things. The staff tend to be more friendly and more professional than other airlines.
I love flying with Delta Airlines because the flight is always very comfortable and all of my needs are met.
I’ve only flown with delta a few times but my experience good each time. There’s never any annoying inconveniences when booking and the prices are average. People are kind and things usually go pretty smoothly.
Delta is awesome. Their flights are always priced reasonable. They have great inflight entertainment and my flights are always comfortable and pleasant. The staff is attentive and great.
My flight to Florida was very smooth. The flight attendants were considerate and attentive and the plane was nice and clean. I loved having my own tv by my seat and choosing what to watch on my own.
I really enjoy flying Delta airlines. I find that they have cheaper prices than a lot of the other major airlines, which I appreciate because I am a poor college student who likes to fly home to see my family pretty often. Thank you Delta!
Wonderful experience flying with Delta. In-flight entertainment is always good and enjoyable, especially for long flights.
I've flown delta a couple times there flight attends are very nice and fun to talk to on the planes most of the time the pilots are very good on flying
Delta is the best airlines to fly with. I was so scared to fly with my baby for the first time because of how fussy she could be, but the plane ride was so smooth. They had good snacks. And they let me upgrade my seat last minute for a great price. They were so helpful when my baby did start to get antsy, and they even got me hot water for her bottle.
I have found really good deals flying between Utah and California, baggage cost is a downside
I love delta! I’ve flown multiple times with delta. Every time I was treated with respect. Could have a checked bag if I needed that much suitcases. Flights were clean and on time. Also for longer flights I had a personal tv I could watch whatever movies I wanted or played games! Great Airline and I would 100% recommend it. My fiancé’s uncle is also a pilot for Delta so I have so much respect for the pilots and what they do!
Flying with Delta is great. Their prices are usually affordable and not too expensive. They provide great in flight entertainment and the staff is always helpful and pleasant. I don’t like the fee for my checked bag. I think the first one should at least be free.
Good experience good service find night would have preferred better viewing options
I really really like Delta! They have really good service both off and on the airplane.
Very nice and comfy, albeit more expensive than other airlines. I've always had good experiences on the flights.
Flights are affordable, flight staff are very kind and helpful. My family frequently flies delta because they are a nice airline service, affordable, and have great partnerships and can get us wherever we need to go.
I appreciated the inexpensive nature of the flights. The drinks were nice but they never give you the full beverage can which is stupid.
Hands down, Delta Airlines is my favorite. They are reliable - flights are rarely cancelled. Their customer service is great. The planes have individual screens for personal entertainment. There aren't hidden costs in their services and they provide snacks for almost every flight.
Delta is one of the few airlines that make flying bearable. I would fly with them every time if I had the money.
I enjoy flying delta because they make the flight enjoyable. The movies and kind Airline attendants always make it worth the time and money.
Typically the media is good and the food is good. There could be more leg room on the flight.
I try to only fly delta whenever I go because of the great benefits and customer service. The first time I missed a flight, I was scared of what I was going to do and if I would make it. But they helped me find another flight within an hour.
Comfortable seats. Enjoyed our flight to Hawaii with Delta. Helped solve a problem when the inflight movie wouldn’t work. Helpful flight attendants.
Delta is by far my favorite airline. It's the airline that I've used my whole life. I've been on other airlines and I always like Delta more. The airplanes are clean and the flight attendants are really nice.
Love delta. The service is great, flights are always on time (maybe I’m just lucky), and I love the upgrades they have made to their planes. Plus you can always find a good deal.
I have enjoyed my experiences with Delta. They sometimes give good deals and usually have good service.
Delta is my favorite airline by far. They are the most reliable, most comfortable, and have the most professional and helpful customer service.
I use to love flying with delta but I hate it now. There planes are usually dirty. I don’t like that you have to pay extra to pick a seat and they have terrible customer service.
Delta had overbooked the flight I was taking with some friends over Memorial Day weekend by 5 seats. They paid us $200 each if we were willing to wait until the next flight out two hours later (which more than covered the cost of our flight). Thanks, Delta!
I love flying with Delta. Especially their Biscoff cookies! Recently they needed someone to be bumped to a later flight because they had overbooked. I was in no rush so I offered and they sent me a MasterCard Gift Card straight to my house for offering. I basically got a free flight.
I LOVE Delta. They have the best customer service and their flights are just so much better--especially when traveling with children. Their in-flight services can't be beat.
I have been on many delta flights. Staff is usually professional and flights are on time.
I have flown with Delta several times. Each time has been amazing! They have always been on time, staff is very friendly and the airplanes are clean. I do feel like they are a little more money than some other airlines, but I’ve never had a bad experience with them yet!
i love delta and have flown with delta pretty much most of my life. and the airplanes and service and so nice. i would recommend delta for sure.
I LOVE delta! They have the best costumer service and are great to help me fix any problems I have! Delta is always my first choice because of their upgraded planes and amazing staff!
Planes are very well maintained. Flights are comfortable and destinations are ample.
Delta is the airline I use the most. Flight Attendants have always been nice, friendly, and helpful. My main complaints are the seats and leg room have shrunk over the years and every flight is full or overbooked.
We almost always fly Delta as they offer a free checked bag and good customer service most of the time. Hold times are very long though. One downfall would be them not being as competitive in their pricing with other airlines. It would be nice to fly the comfort of Delta with the competitive pricing.
