Delta Airlines is one of the largest American airlines and is headquartered at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. It has one of the largest network hubs in the world and flies to over 325 destinations in 64 different countries. What began as Huff Daland Dusters, a crop dusting service, later became Delta Air Services with passenger flights starting in June 1929.
2013 saw Delta become the world's largest airline in terms of scheduled passengers, and the second largest in terms of revenue passenger-kilometers.
The company has worked extensively to make sure that customers have perks on most (if not all) planes in its fleet.
Passengers in the wide-bodied Boeing 766 are guaranteed to have wireless Internet available. Other models of planes may have Wi-Fi, but this feature has to be added to some planes (especially the fleet of Airbus and smaller narrow-bodied models).
Delta Sky Magazine, which is published by MSP Communications offers customers a wide variety of items to be perused in-flight.
Keep reading for pros and cons, plus Delta reviews from real customers.
There is a lot to like about Delta's SkyMiles rewards program. It is one of the only airlines in the industry to not let its customers' frequent flier miles expire. This perk for returning customers provides the potential for significant value over time.
Additional perks that come with being a SkyMiles member include flight upgrades, vacation packages, and other amenities.
There are no blackout dates for Delta's SkyMiles program.
Transparency is an important component of Delta's packages. Their travel insurance (offered through Allianz) is straightforward, easy-to-understand, and is perfect for nearly every passenger.
Another positive aspect of flying with Delta is that you are able to pay for a flight with sources of credit other than a credit card. Another payment option that could be used, for example, is Bill Me Later.
Delta has a wide array of destinations available for its clients. Their network of partners makes it easy for customers to get anywhere in the United States.
In some states, it was also possible to get to smaller cities through some of their partners. For example, we found that Moab, UT (a popular tourist spot) has scheduled service with SkyWest and Delta.
Another thing that separates Delta from their competition is their fleet of planes. Several Airbus and Boeing models are used in its wide-bodied fleet, and come with Wi-Fi, LCD displays (as of 2012), and AC power for laptops (on some planes).
Many narrow-bodied planes, mainly used for smaller connecting flights, also have Wi-Fi and other entertainment options available for customers.
The carrier has an extensive meal service for its flights, and any flight over six hours has a complimentary meal.
There is a wide variety of beverages available on flights. Alcoholic beverages include wine, beer, and some other liquor varieties that vary in price based upon the flight.
Also, all non-alcoholic beverages (including soda and coffee) are free.
A customer service experience with Delta is most likely to be positive. The website is filled with information that potential fliers may ask. It is simple to contact customer support via Domestic Flight Booking service number (800-221-1212), to ask specific questions about prices for purchasing a ticket. This is also a great place, along with their website, to get information about travel insurance.
As per Flightstats.com, Delta flights arrive on-time roughly 87% of the time. Compared to other top airlines, this is very competitive.
Let's face it; airlines can have a lot of problems when it comes to baggage. The largest complaints with Delta seems to stem from checked baggage fees. Some customers complained about the second checked baggage fee of $35. When customers take a carry-on that should be checked, some became offended at the complimentary free baggage check after check-in.
Going overseas, some customers had issues with the economy upgrade perks to their ticket. When the economy comfort perks had been "overbooked," customers were issued a refund, but often complained at not getting the experience that they had originally paid for.
Overall, these complaints were to be expected when flying in general, and most customers were pleased with their Delta experience.
Delta has never failed me. I feel safe flying with this company and feeling like I will arrive on time as scheduled.
Very amazing service. The plane rides are nice and comfortable. It is nice being able to have snacks and drinks for free. It is cool how there are T.V.s in the seats. It keeps everyone entertained.
These flights have always been very comfortable. I take Delta when I travel on red eye flights and I have been able to go to sleep surprisingly well. I have always had outstanding services when we fly with them.
Delta Airlines flies everywhere and is a super dependable airline! Their staff is always very helpful and welcoming
The customer service is nice and plenty of choices. Do not like the unfriendly pairing of departure and arrival options.
I have family who work for delta so i usually get deals but even without the special deals its not that bad and delta airlines is nothing special in my opinion but are a reliable and decent airline servive
I enjoyed the flights I took over the years on Delta. Once I went on a buddy pass and got upgraded to business class, which was pretty sweet.
Like choosing seats. Everyone professional. Plane clean and neat. Baggage claim quick. Prices competitive. Don’t like being charged for checking first piece of luggage. Website easy to navigate.
Excellence service and product for the money spent
Delta is the only airline that I will ride now. The costumer service is amazing and the flight attendants make it the most comfortable flight possible
Airlines have notoriously gone downhill in customer service over the years. I do not believe Delta has.
With my job, I fly 100-200,000 miles a year mostly on Delta. I have been mostly happy with their service and they have tried to rectify a situation when a problem occurs. Delta is generally a good airline to fly.
We have flown Delta on several occasions and generally are happy with our flights. I like that we are able to make seat assignments without having to pay extra. I don't like that we have to pay individually for luggage.
Friendly, personable. On our way to get married in Vegas they gave us a compliment drink.

I have no problems with Delta. Customer service, pricing, etc. is great!
I love flying Delta. They provide the best service and the luxuries that I have come to expect on a flight. They are one of my top choices.
The best part about Delta is the movie selection. Sitting on a plane for multiple hours can get boring but with the entertainment system you never get board. And the staff is always willing to help with a smile on their face. Delta also has really good rewards/sky mile programs for their frequent flyers.
Its always a pleasure flying with delta. Why? Because its got more luxury than southwest or Alaska airlines (the other 2 I fly on because of pricing). I would much prefer them, and they are usually really good when you ask for stuff or need help.
My last flight with Delta airlines was quite delightful! The seats were bigger than expected. The flight attendants were very helpful and attentive to my needs.
I had a very goid experience flying Delta. Their app is very easy to use and their flight attendants are extremly top notch. We were treated very well by every Delta employee we encountered.
On time. Competent Staff. The prices they charge on popular routes are so expensive as to be prohibitive.
Good customer service and find flights generally on time
I fly standby with Delta and i have to say they are the nicest airlines ive been on. They want to provide you with the most comfortable flight as possible. Whenever I fly alone i dont have to worried because i know that the flight attendants are looking out for me. If you ever have a choice between airlines CHOOSE DELTA.
Fairly reliable. Feel confident in their safety record. Do not like their extra bag fees but most airlines charge that. Have a more extensive number of flight options than many airlines.
Delta Airlines is a very happy environment. I have taken a 4-hour flight before and was very entertained while on it. They have screens on the back of the seats that help little kids be distracted. The service on the plane was more than expected.
I've almost always flown with Delta Airlines. It's easy to accumulate miles, their credit card makes it easier, and I love that you can check one bag for free on each flight. The only problem that I have had is that you can't cancel or transfer flights. It's so hard to plan ahead in life when there are so many changes. I've had to cancel or change flights because life happens, things change; but I either can't or have to pay a huge fee to do so.
Once I was booked on a flight and I didn’t buy travel insurance. The night before my travel p I was hit as a pedestrian in a cross walk by a bus. I broke my leg and couldn’t go on the trip. Delta refunded my ticket even without travel insurance. I always think positive about delta for that.
We have always had decent service on Delta. I am unhappy with their sky miles program, it is very difficult to get miles awarded. No airline is perfect, but Delta has a good schedule from the airport near us.
I love Delta, I almost always fly Delta. The people are always very kind, and the airplanes are always fairly clean.
I love flying delta. I travel with an infant and they let me get on the plane first! The service is exceptional.
Online website is really user friendly - one thing that really frustrates me is the inability to change my flight without losing my sky miles... what are you guys - Spirit Airlines? What is the incentive in being a Skymiles CC holder if I’m treated in the exact way that non-CC holders are treated when cancelling/changing flights? Just wish Southwest had more direct flights - I would definitely cancel my Delta card.
Horrible customer service and continued loss of luggage
I like to see more legroom and better seats.

Top rated, great service, New aircraft, great Customer serv.
They are very accommodating and try to make helpful suggestions
Customer service is great. Price is reasonable.
Delta - They fly on time and I like their menu.
My flight was great, but my luggage was lost. I understand that things happen, but I was so frustrated with the run around I got from Delta. I was redirected to so many different CS reps asking for the same information over and over. Its been 55 days and I am still waiting for any resolution to my luggage disappearing.
We love flying Delta! They have the best routes and their layovers are never ridiculously long as with other airlines. The tickets can be a bit more expensive, but in our experience it’s worth it. Comfortable seats and plenty of options for in flight entertainment. Delta is definitely our preferred airline.
Delta has so many flights to choose from, it is great. Their seats are comfortable and the flight crews we have been with have been great.
I fly Delta regular, not really by choice because they are the only airline flying from London to Minneapolis non-stop. I fly Delta One which is supposedly the best class they offer. My biggest gripe with Delta is the customer service experience is just not there and they seem to lack the overall experience. They do act professional at times, but the aircraft they use on a busy route is old a 767-300. It is both uncomfortable and incredibly noisy aircraft. The seats are uncomfortable even in Delta One, the whole experience on every journey is not pleasant compared to other airlines. They are missing the real experience of travel and it feels very much an experienced cross between a budget airline and a moderate airline – they do not seem to know if they are one or the other, they most certainly do not fall into the category of luxury or even top quality airline. However, in retrospect none of the US airlines matches those from UK and Asia in that respect.
Delta is the best airline option out there in my opinion. They are a large airline so there are a tons of different flights to choose from. They fly into nearly every airport needed. Their prices are competitive and their customer service is great. I have a sky miles card which is a nice option to get free flights and upgrades.
We have been flying with Delta for quite awhile now... THey are reliable, honest, and I can always find a decent priced flight through Delta... I feel like they are our go to airline because we feel safe, and we feel like we can trust them!
I always fly delta. For the most part I can always find a flight at a reasonable price. For the most part they are on time and provide good customer support.
I love Delta Airlines! it is one of my favorite airlines! I really like how they give you snacks and once they gave my free headphones for my movie!
I’ve been pleased with the service they give. Their planes are nice and comfortable . The employees are friendly and care about us.
Delta is the first airline I check when I need to book a fight. They go everywhere! Recently my flight was delayed, and without thinking much of it Delta went above my expectations with compensation for future flights!
Delta airlines outweigh any other airline by far. The service they provide and on board services are certainly the best and like airlines used to be. They make your flight enjoyable and comfortable. It is the only airline I like to fly with.
Delta Airline is one of my favorite. Eventhough they mostly overbook their flights, they give you multiple options and travel voucher for ther screw up.
Only airline I fly. It is more expensive but you get bang for the buck. Rewards are generous and they always are quick to recompense any issues that arise when flying. All staff are helpful, they have many hubs and partners which makes it so you can get more places. Never had an issue getting tickets or refunded when appropriate.
