After you sign your Sunrun agreement, you’re ready for solar panel installation. The best part? You don’t have to lift a finger because we take care of everything from scheduling to submitting permits, to working with the city and utility, and securing your solar panels to your roof. Naturally you’ll have questions, and we’ll be right there with you answering them every step of the way.

Once you’re approved for a Sunrun solar installation, your home will undergo a site assessment and an expert solar technician will visit your home to confirm your system design.

After that, our solar design experts make any necessary adjustments to your design and get your final approval. Once you’ve approved your system design, we submit your design to the city for permitting. From there, either Sunrun or one of our local certified partners perform your solar installation. But before our crew comes to your house, we take a few weeks to prepare your project so that you have the smoothest installation day possible. You will have a team of experts working for you during this time who handle the tasks necessary for a smooth solar installation and keep you updated along the way. Does Sunrun offer solar monitoring?

Yes! We have a monitoring team dedicated to keeping an eye on your home solar system. Here’s how it works:

  1. We record production (in real-time) — Your Sunrun meter counts your kilowatts as they’re produced.
  2. We collect your production data (every six hours) — Four times a day, your Sunrun meter sends your production data to our Denver-based monitoring team, where all production data is collected, stored, and analyzed.
  3. We evaluate your production (every day) — We compare your production to the estimates included in your contract to confirm that your system is working as expected. We also check the weather and other systems in your neighborhood to make sure you’re harvesting just as much sunshine as your neighbors.
  4. We fix what needs fixing (if necessary) — If your system isn’t working as expected, we will identify the issue and rectify the situation. If we cannot fix your system with remote troubleshooting, we may need to send a technician to take a look at your system in person.

I've been a Sunrun customer since 2012. Since the beginning, the ceiling of my room which is right below where they install their solar panel started showing a water leaking spot. We called Sunrun and they sent out and inspector to check it out. They claimed it was not cause by the solar panel installation. In SoCal, we don't get rain a lot. We've been slacking off having the roof to take care of. That's ourselves to blame. Thru time, leaking spot is getting bigger. My husband got 3 different roofing companies to check it out. All of them pointed out it was caused by the old way of solar panel installation. They used to use penetrating method; they currently switch to the floating method. However, none of them are willing to write a report for us to show to Sunrun as proof. However, Sunrun doesn't want to send out inspector to check out anymore. There is a manager even told my husband to sue them. The whole thing is so frustrating and we're so helpless. By the way, we are their customer since the early stage, there is no warranty duration on our contract. However the manager my husband spoke today didn't even want to honor it. Anyone knows what to do?

This company was friendly at the start and through the installation. Once the install was complete, there was damage made by their company and the roofing company they hired. I called, no response. I sent an email and heard back. They said they would have someone get back. Never heard back from them, even after many emails and calls. They do not follow up with issues with their installs!

We realize we are close to celebrating multiple anniversaries! It is 7 months and one day since we signed our contract with Sunrun. It is one day short of 3 months since we paid $18,000.00+ for our solar system, and 11 days short of 5 months since Sunrun received funds via our credit card for that solar system. And guess what? We are still waiting for word about how and when we will move forward to get our solar system! It's the darndest thing-the Sept. 25, 2019 email that we received from Sunrun says, "we have reached your installation phase..." Since then, we have been consistently trying to get some information as to how we can actually achieve that installation. It is 2 months since R** asked how he could help us move forward, and promised to call his manager; and only 3 weeks and a day since his manager, L*****, told us that our project was a priority and that our days/weeks/months of waiting were unacceptable. And, yet, we wait. We are grateful that subsequent to L*****'s call, we did have an installation contractor confirm that the proposed $7,000.00 of roof work would not be necessary. Grateful, but shaken that if it the work wasn't necessary why was it proposed. We also spoke to L***** about receiving $800.00 in compensation for the damages we have incurred because Sunrun did not install our solar system in time for the 2019 tax credit. The monetary damages that we have incurred are real. We lost a portion of tax credit that we cannot recoup. The tax credit that we will receive will come an entire year later than it would have if Sunrun had installed our system in a timely manner, losing the use of those funds for an entire year. We lost the use of our money for the months that it has been held by Sunrun while we have no product. We have paid month after month of electric bills that should have been reduced by our solar system. We have spent hours sending emails, making phone calls, writing letters and fuming over a process that has been substandard, frustrating and that we, as customers, should not feel compelled to manage. We are compelled, because despite our repeated efforts to email, phone and write, trying to move this process forward, we wait. A copy of this email is going to every address that I can find for Sunrun and Costco. Somebody somewhere has to care.

The company says a solar installation will save money but my electric bills due to Sunrun are higher than ever. The contract that I originally signed was changed to a higher base rate and a higher percentage of yearly increase from 1% to 2.9% for starters (I suspect the initial rep lied to me). I discovered that I had received an e-mail from Sunrun over a week after it had been sent with an altered contract that had electronic signatures (which I never consented to giving) and the base rate and percentage increases. The time frame and requirement to deny the contract were limited and it was impossible to send the required form within the time frame. Attempts to refuse the contract were denied by customer care over the phone and I was told they would have their legal department contact me. That never happened as is the case with so many of the promises made by their personnel. I kept getting strung along and even submitted electric bills for an "analysis" which they misinterpreted. My electric bills prior to Sunrun had a yearly cost of about $360 without solar. Subsequently, with solar they started at $38.85/mo with any customer service charges or fees from the local power company ending up with yearly charges of about $500. Naturally, they continue to increase due to Sunrun's inflated increases. The system's recently installed meter has not displayed anything for almost three months meaning that the system is not producing usable power and the bills from my local power company have been around $30. Last fall Sunrun changed their terms of service so that if you want to check into their site you must agree to some of most absurd measures that keep you from filing claims and complaints against the company. In short, they trick trusting consumers with all of their hogwash so they can rip them off. Dealing with customer care is like going on a merry-go-round as nothing is ever done to resolve issues. Despite all of the issues and complaints, their collection department has been hounding me with threats as I simply stopped paying them. I have given into these scoundrels repeatedly with the expectation that issues would be resolved. That hasn't happened. At one point one customer care person said that if I could prove that the signatures on the contract are not mine, they would remove the system. I never needed to prove it as one person who was assigned to resolve issues readily admitted in an e-mail that the signatures are electronic (and aren't mine). I have filed complaints against the company with the Better Business Bureau along with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and there will be others as well. My advice to any one interested in solar power is to definitely shop around, check reviews and definitely get a company that is much more local and not like Sunrun that is based 3,000 miles from me. I definitely do not recommend Sunrun which doesn't even deserve a one star rating.

Also, keep in mind that your savings are directly correlated to your home’s energy consumption. I am going to report this company to the BBB. My husband started to deal with them and then suffered a severe fall. He had to have brain surgery. He was in and out of the hospital for 3 months. Sunrun contacted him and I told them he was ill and has suffered stroke like symptoms. He was not capable of making decisions that involved such a large amount of money. They said they understood. When my husband came home from his hospital stays he contacted them and I thought well I talked to them already and told them he was ill. He had a diagnoses of dementia! I told them this. They still came out and did the installation. First they sent a company to fix some sort of roofing problem for $10000. They left a mess and a the nails are still falling off the roof. At any rate the solar panels were installed and when my husband tried to get someone to come to our house to show them the junk in the yard and the nails on the roof no one would respond. That idiot Sam would not even call him. Then the bills started coming from them. I told him just pay them and he wanted to talk to someone. He finally ended up yelling at someone on the phone. I told them he was not right but they would not listen. Today he paid in full just to get them over and done with. They suck and I know that we will never see our $32.000. before we die. My husband is 74 years old. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I purchased solar panel from Sunrun last year. I paid 30.000 for installation of the panel I was told that the system they designed I don't need to pay any electricity bill. I was told that there is battery back up to save the electricity I will receive check from Edison. I am getting bill from Edison every month for 75-85 dollars I call the company that they said the system is not enough for your use when we sign the contract I gave them 6 months of Edison bill the panel was design base on our usage apparently they didn't design the panel correctly the claim our usage is more now this is not correct actually our usage is less since my daughter move out don't trust Sunrun company with their work they don't know what they are doing. the customer service are very bad and very rude when I contacted them they told me you can't even talk to supervisor and said you are on your own don't call us

Utility companies also charge all customers non-bypassable fees regardless of whether you are a solar customer or not. Their pricing is a little confusing especially since they have to partner with a utility provider. You know what your Sunrun lease costs will be, they are pretty straight forward, but what the utility will charge you is unknown. That is at least until you have a year's worth of billing experience with them. In the end you end up paying a little less than what you would have had to pay a straight utility connection. I am not fond of the duel billing program nor that I have to set up automatic withdrawal from my checking account in order to get the Sunrun discount. I would have preferred being able to do so from a credit card.

The first few months after installation had many problems with the system . SunRun was able to answer all my questions. The showed me examples of work that they had done. They made sure I had information about solar panels and solar savings. They were quit thorough. The installation process was flawless.They were on time and very respectful of my home. They showed me what they had done after they finished. Everything works the way that it should. Customer service is excellent they are reliable and they're prompt in responding to your calls. About the equipment. The panels are on my roof and we had a horrible storm and I was concerned because my neighbor had pieces of their roof fly out but I had no incident. The other cool thing about SunRun is I had a small stipend for referring other customers to them. I referred them because I thought the service was nice and really didn't expect anything but I thought that was a nice touch.

It keeps breaking down. I have had a very bad experience with SunRun in terms of their telling a subcontractor to disconnect my system for non payment when I had prepaid a twenty year lease up front for sixteen thousand dollars. It was embarrassing and I had to spend a lot of time correcting this.

Installation went fine people came out on time and they got it up when they said they were going to. It's almost impossible to get a hold of a real person and have them actually call you back when they say they're going to call you back and if you ever do get them to call you back they don't offer to help and they don't send anybody out to help you they just give you the run around the entire time. The equipment doesn't work the way they say it's going to work and they're not willing to fix it to make it work. I would tell people to not use their company and if I could go back in time and not use their company I would not use their company. I wouldn't get solar at all.

They said they were gonna put the screen guard to keep the birds and stuff away and I've called in 2 to 3 times over the past few years and they still haven't bother to show up to take care of it. Most of my questions other than that have been resolved but it usually takes a couple of times before I get an answer. Instillation went very good. They showed up when they said they were going to and got the system up and running. The only thing that took time were getting approvals through the city. The bills have been strictly taxes and fees. It's producing enough to cover at least 10 months a year one more panel probably would have got me the whole year.

They're very consistent, thorough, and follow through. The Installation process went very well I think they finished even a day ahead of schedule. Of course being inside the home it's understandably noisy within them banging on the roof however I'm very pleased with the end results. From what I've seen the quality is excellent it performs well. I've seen other systems throughout the different communities and whatnot and different places of business I just like the look and the design of the SunRun system. It's been great. They were at Costco and Costco stands behind what they sell at their store. They came out and did the measuring and they came and installed it and took a couple of days and then we had to wait for inspection so everything pretty much went as we were told ahead of time. There was one problem, they came out and fixed it but they didn't fix it immediately it was a few days and we weren't sure what was going on but other than that it was great and they took care of it. Everything has gone really well and for the first year we had a bill of a hundred and thirty dollars but we didn't install it until one month into the year so we're pleased.

I liked that it was offered through Costco. The instillation was quick and went well. They're very slow to respond as far as sending people out for repairs. The turnaround time it is too long. We had problems with the inverter and they had to give us a new one under warranty. We were without our solar power for a long time. We had to go back on SDG&E at peak rates. It was a good two months and it wasn't until I got Costco involved that anything started to happen. The whole process to get the inverter replaced was very difficult.

I got the company when I went into home depot. I received good customer service. They answered all the questions that I had and they were pretty much on top of it. I had a pleasant experience getting the panels up. However, there were huge number of pages and signatures required. I was told that I would receive a check at the end of the year, if I had generated more power than what I used. Well, I have over two hundred dollars in credit. sCE says I did not sign up for the refund and will not be receiving any reimbursement. This is a very negative experience. Sunrun should take care if this right away! Then I'll be able to give an appropriate rating.! ,

Solar is a seasonal product, and it is best to wait until your solar anniversary (one year after Permission to Operate was granted) to gain a complete understanding of your savings and how solar is working for you. Keep in mind, how much you save depends on many factors including how much electricity you use. If you use more after going solar than you did before, this may affect how much money you save.
