Installment Agreement The Installment Agreement program is where the IRS or State will take monthly payments to pay down your tax bill. The biggest struggle with the Installment Agreement is the IRS or State will typically try and force you into a payment schedule that will become a burden. Our expertise in negotiating the lowest possible amount to pay the IRS or State shines when setting up an Installment Agreement Offer in Compromise Offer in Compromise (OIC) is one of the most sought out and difficult program for taxpayers to obtain. An Offer in Compromise (OIC) is where the IRS or State agree to settle your tax liabilities for less than the full amount owed. Though this is a very difficult program to be successful in, we have saved our clients millions using the Offer in Compromise program. Currently Not Collectible In some instances that even though you agree with the debt you owe to the IRS or State, but due to your current situation you cannot afford to make any payments on the debt owed. We can set you up in a Non-collectible status called CNC. Once in CNC the IRS or State will cease any collection activities. Penalty Abatement Applying for an IRS Penalty Abatement there are many factors and circumstances that come to play when you want to be relieved of debts and penalties placed on you by the IRS or State. The most important factor to achieving a successful Penalty Abatement is knowing how to communicate with the IRS. With over 100 years of combined experience our attorneys can communicate with the IRS or State. Collection Statute Expiration Date (CSED) Statute of Limitations On Collection Statute Expiration Date (CSED) IRS CSED. One of the many unknown laws associated with IRS collection practices is there is a statute of limitation on how long they can collect. Though there is a gray area it is typically 10 years from the debt occurred. That said if a tax payer has not filed or there were negotiations involved during those 10 years there can be additional years added to the collectability of the IRS tax debt. Innocent Spouse When a tax issue occurs and the one of the partners was unaware of the tax debt or was not in charge of the financials there is a program called Innocent Spouse Tax Relief where as a couple that has filed joint taxes only one of the two may be required to pay the balance owed to the IRS. Though many individuals are certified to do tax returns, unfortunately many are not qualified or experienced and miss allowable deductions or worse claim deductions which should not have been claimed. *THE ONLY REVIEW YOU NEED TO READ* I cannot say enough about Chris S, Rob S, the team at Defense Tax Group. I had been diagnosed with late stage cancer, had no choice but to immediately stop working so I could start treatment and had a past tax bill I had been trying to pay down. I then started to incur enormous medical and financial debt faster than I thought possible and to say I felt like I was drowning is an understatement. I really had no idea how I was going to take care of all of these things and then I was hit again and had to take my accumulative work bonus in one lump (rather then paid out over time) which made my new tax bill completely unmanageable, unrealistic and I now I felt like I was actually drowning. Someone recommended Defense Was Group and they completely changed the course of my life. Not only did they help me by putting together an offer and compromise but they were kind and patient with me when I really wasn't feeling well and made me feel comfortable and supported during this process. Their service was worth every single penny and in the end their fee and what they worked out with the IRS cost me less then half of what I would have had to pay the bureau, I no longer had this hanging over my head and believe that I may not have beat my cancer if I someone reputable had not helped completely resolve this which took a great deal of unneeded stress off me. Lastly, and I don't think the general public knows this, but when someone negotiates a payment plan with the IRS (for their full tax bill) on their own, it only has a bandaid effect and not only will they still owe their original amount but will only be paying the interest and will never get out from under this while the amount they have to pay only grows larger each year.

I had 6 years of unfiled returns, I fealt helpless and the task of completing just one year...let alone 6 years, was daunting and seemed impossible to complete at the time. Defense Tax Group immediately put a team of experts on my case. So, 8 years of back taxes piled up from a company that illegally 1099'ed me......Couldn't maintain a bank account, never got any current refunds......A real pain. I was 65k in arrears to the IRS. They had a garnishment in place. The money they were taking was basically covering interest and penalty fees. I finally decided to look into tax relief. After hiring DTG to assist us in resolve a issue with payroll taxes for our business over 2 years ago, not only has the issue not been resolved, but now we have incurred an additional 30K in interest and penalties. While IRS has has it's own hand in dragging their feet (which helped to incur the additional fees), we had our representative switched back and forth, as well as infrequent communication. For the fee we paid upfront, we also ended up retaining an Enrolled Agent accountant with a separate CPA firm. As a result of all of this (all documented) we have been given the run around by 3 different entities. We were never trying to avoid what we owed and missed on our end, we simply wanted assistance and transparency, and that was never provided. I had to explain tax related issues to our representatives (and the IRS Revenue Officer as well; when she could be reached), that as a lay person I wouldn't have expected to not only know, but the fact they the didn't astounded me. In the end, our situation is still not resolved, we had to close the business as it became impossible to continue running with the bank levies and liens that would hold up funds in a business that was already struggling due to COVID issues, making it impossible to make payroll without going into debt. To be clear, everyone we spoke with was kind, and sympathetic, but ultimately they were not transparent in their actual ability to help us resolve. I would have been more understanding if that was what we were told after a certain point. Discouraging and disappointed in the whole experience.
